Well that session went swimmingly...right up until the point where I lost it all!
Started with £100 and over the course of the next hour built it up nicely to £160. Then THIS happened...

Yup, it's one thing having a flush draw going all-in on you- fair enough, you might argue, but for them to get their with runner-runner for the straight? Harsh.
Did I do anything wrong here? Or was I destined to go broke?
I'd appreciate any constructive criticism.
Other thoughts- it's very pleasant playing in the morning, quite relaxed and easy going. Plus it guarantees you're not tired or under the influence...unless you've been up all night and/or you're an alcoholic!
There was plenty of action on the tables and I was joined for my session by Sky Poker legend Gliterbabe too.
Thumbs up all round...apart from the last bit :-( ;-)
Quick Question: Are we going to see hands played on Master Cash tables on a special section of the show? Is their a forfeit for James when you beat him? Posted by DUNMIDOSH
I think if our hands from the Mastercash tables are shown they'll be on their own dedcated show rather than in the live broadcasts.
We'll let you know if a decision is made on that.
As for James' forfeit- yes, he has to watch the Transformers trilogy back-to-back if he loses. He'll hate that!

No criticism.
You could have made a bigger raise pre flop! Then Style may have folded, but to reap maximum reward from the hand you want your opponents to call. Having railed your table. £3 was a cute raise which in no way gave away your Aces. But was never going to get rid of the big stack who at the time was on a roll.
After the flop. When you realised you were heads up with the big stack. You could have checked to gain pot control. Then when the turn arrived you may have had the chance to escape.
But I think the money was going in whatever! You fell in love with aces on the flop then the small stack variance phenomenon hit you in the cruellest manner.
I'm sure you questioned when to leave a cash table recently. if you'd set a goal of achieving a 50% return on your investment you'd have been up and gone with a tidy profit. Just like Wednesday when you played shortstacks at a higher level! Achieved £100 profit then gave it away!
I think you've proven you've got the game! You just need to work on pot control and the prudent time to leave a table. Take up Paul Jackson's offer of coaching! Then Vegas watch out! lol
Right- Sunday evening- peaktime in online poker! I'm on Sands 50p/£1 with the max 100 BBs- £100 and I'm going to see if I can play sensibly and double up on the table.
As soon as I've done that I'm getting up and leaving. Ditto for if I go broke.
I started at 7.43pm. It'll be interesting to see how quickly one of those events will take me!
And mission accomplished at 8.27pm! 34 minutes it took all told.
Must do this with my own money at some point!!!!
The double-up came courtesy of an extraordinarily big hand, but frankly I felt confident that I would've ground my way over the line over the next 30 minutes or so as long as I didn't fall foul of any coolers.
Felt confident- and played well because I set myself a clear, realistic target and didn't waiver. A lesson for us all? Including me? Lol!
Cheers to the railers and I'll leave you with the rather nice hand that took me over the £200 mark...
Suffice to say, we finally got a game going when 50nl regs like hurst05 and TommyD arrived at the table. Sadly, they're a bit too good for me!
Also, I was dealt a pretty poor run of hands during my 90 minute session (only one pocket pair and J5o about 28 times). But that didn't stop me splashing around. Sigh. I think it's fair to say I'm not on my A-game when I'm only playing one table: I get bored, lose focus (partly due to the chat box) and end up playing too many sub-standard and marginal hands.
So, you won't be surprised to hear it was a losing session. I dropped nearly a third of my stack (£30.23 to be precise). But I now have a brand new c-note to take to the 50nl tables.
But this time, I'm spreading it across TWO tables...
In Response to Re: Join James & Rich on...THE CASH CRUSADE! : Good start- made the double-up again from £100 to £200 inside an hour then left the table. Gonna have another pop at that feat now! On Mastercash 8! 25p/50p Posted by RicOrford
I dropped £9.41 at Shieldhill and £14.19 at Mossley. I know where I'm going wrong: I'm spewing in spectacular fashion. Put simply, I'm still playing too many hands and I'm still calling too many raises with marginal holdings. Why? Because I want to play; because folding is boring.
So, I'm going to take another £100 to the cash tables, but this time I'm going to play a lower limit (10p/20p) and play up to FIVE tables. Suffice to say, I'll be on Mini View, so don't be offended if I don't chat...
In Response to Re: Join James & Rich on...THE CASH CRUSADE! : What's the secret...? Posted by J-Hartigan
Well, to be honest James it's probably just a heater. But if I may take a moment to give a serious answer to the question- I think it's because I'm playing with my own money rather than Sky's and keeping the chat to a minimum.
Therefore I'm fully focussed and playing tight pre-flop. And finally- I have a precise objective: double-up and leave. If you're not on a time constraint and you're fully chipped up, you can play the waiting game to achieve this whilst those around you get busy every hand.
Nothing can save me from a cooler though and I've yet to walk into one. But I'm sure it'll come...
Yes, I had an absolute shocker at Buckhaven. I got stacked twice, running JJ into AA (aipf) and then lost with 87 on a K7785 board...to KK (I defy anyone not to go broke in that spot). So, that put a hefty dent in my profits. In fact, it resulted in an overall loss. A net loss of £20.49.
Overall, I think I played better during this session than on the 50nl tables, although, I still need to curb the spewiness.
Next week, I'm going to focus on ten-handed tables. Ha! If I haven't got the patience to play six-max properly, how am I going to cope in a full ring game?!? Well, I shall be working on plugging some leaks in the next seven days and will attempt to approach next Monday's session fully focussed - Orford stylee...
Hmm, had to cut short my session before the double-up was achieved to catch my daughter's nativity show, so I left up at £119 but short of my objective.
Other excuses? Er, I had Gliterbabe and Julian Thew at my table.
Also I got distracted in a key hand by the bloody missus phoning me.
What's that you say? A bad workman always blames his tools? Too right...
I'll be back later today to redress this glaring anomaly in the universal correctness of how things should be....
Wow- another winning session. Walked off the table with £235.
Really enjoying my cash poker at the mo, really got my mojo back again.
I'm not getting ahead of myself though- I've yet to have a losing session after my initial deposit of £100, but a losing session is sure to come at some stage.
And then it'll be all about how I handle it. In the past, I've tilted and lost the rest of my bankroll in pretty short order.
I'm looking forward to multi-tabling tomorrow night on my official Play The Presenter stint, as so far I've been concentrating on one table.
Also I realise that sticking my whole bankroll on one table was a somewhat foolhardy gamble- but I've stuck to sitting dwn with £100 since then- so the bigger the bankroll gets, the smaller a percentage of that bankroll the £100 becomes.
Not the faint-hearted though!
For the moment though, I'm playing well, walking away at the right moment and most importantly- ENJOYING MY POKER!
I've done so many Sky MTTs on my official Play The Presenter account over the last couple of years, that I've lost all memory of what it was once like to be risking my own money on the cash tables and all the thrills and spills that go with that.
And maybe, just maybe in the meantime, five years of sitting next to pros and having them coach me in the game, albeit via you guys, is beginning to pay off!
Who knows? Maybe it'll all go pear-shaped soon. But for now, the cash crusade continues..!
You have played very well Rich mate on every session ive seen you play and imo you will continue to get better once your reads and notes on certain regs builds because these are massive tools when playing cash and at the mo your winning without them.
As a cash player myself ive enjoyed reading both of your journeys, also fun to look at some hands that are meduim stakes, with the AA hand rich i wouldn't be keen on getting it in with 150bb's on the flo with just an overpair, id prob call his raise and re-assess on the turn. With the 44 hand i think u missed value by not betting the turn, a small bet here is good as hes likely to have a draw on that flop and it makes it easier to bet the river a little bigger. Just my thoughts, keep it up!
Currently sat on Red Sea 50p/£1 and just got a lovely double-up courtesy of flopping a set, getting it all-in v a nut flush draw and housing up on the river.
Now on £230. Prob gonna depart that one soon then and move over to another similar level table but back down with £100.
Its Amazing the effect confidence has had on your game! The hardest challenge you face now, is having the discipline to build your bank roll before attempting the next level! Your performance is even more impressive! When you consider most of the players you've taken on, appear regularly on Master Cash and Top of the Pots! Keep it up mate! Posted by DUNMIDOSH
Ty mate- yeah, bankroll management has always been my undoing- and I'm playing above it right now, but if i stay at this level and keep building up the roll, it will eventually be the correct level!
Right, I'm now on Partick 50p/£1 and I'm also on Play The Presenter tonight. So I'm pretty much on the cash tables for the next 7 hours!
OK- just had my first losing session- had to come- fell foul of a couple of cold decks. Had to come at some point and unfortunately I had to leave the table before I had a chance to win it all back- so finished with a quarter of my stack.
But now- I'm on official Play The Presenter night.
So my plan is to multi-table for the first section!
I'm going to try 4 tables! I don't think I've done 4 tables of cash before- so unfortunately I wonlt be able to chat much but feel free to come and rail!
