Been playing some NL4, built my stack up to around £12 (Okay, I flopped quads and someone kept betting into me and went all in) before a couple of regs joined. At this point, I'd been playing for just over 3 hours non-stop. I threw away about £3 by making calls which I shouldn't have made pre-flop with marginal hands at best - KJ, A8, A9 facing a raise pre-flop from NL4 regs, for instance, whereas usually them hands just go straight in the muck in that spot.
Basically, I was tired and playing badly, so I'm wondering how long I should play for before taking a break?

I think each person it varies, your saying you where making marginal calls v regs, this is never profitable. Although not all regs at NL4 are good. Theres two or three i think are not very good at all, but i seen them on 5 or 6 tables at a time.
Anyways i noticed you where only on one table yourself. I know this is much easier and you can build reads alot quicker than i can on my 6 tables, however this might also explain why your making these loose calls with KJ, A8 and A9. FWIW i do play these hands v some oppos in posision aswell. However if you then say add another table, ur spreading the variance (£12 on 2 tables = better than £12 on one).
Just my two pennies. sounds like ur getting bored and tired.
If the Regs joined your table then just find another table, you don't need to mix it up with them
I do anything from 1 hour 1 table to 3 hours 8 tables
depending in what I am doing, in general I'll just watch TV and play 3 tables on the lappy in the evening - these sessions can last 5 hours if I am going deep in a MTT - but with 5 minute breaks thrown in
If you feel tired or your tilting then just stop, you WILL lose money
