When will i learn?

edited December 2011 in Poker Chat
A few times now i have taken a bankroll from £100 - £200 and ran it well over a £1,000 within a month or two and i then donk it off on high stakes tables, chasing the mega money. My BRM is ad at the best of times but it gets worse the higher it gets. I then struggle to drop back down levels as the money seems worthless comared to what i was playing, meaning sometimes i'm trying to make a profit with 50% of my BR in play. How can i stop myself from being a tool and playing too high or will this come from experience. Im only 19 and still have a lot to learn but know i have a solid, winnning game especially at the smaller levels!!!

im the exact same and im trying to correct this aswell so my advice may not apply to what i do, i wish it did! but hopefully it will soon, i have managed to do so a few times.

when you get to 1000 withdraw it all back to 100 straight away and build again from there, that way you won't feel like the lower money is as worthless as it will be a great proportion of your BR and also you can spend the wihtdrawn money happily :)

another tactic i may suggest which has worked for me before is to have a BR say 100 and then each night withdraw what you have over 100 (if any), then again i play tournaments as well as cash so if i bink a tourny win it works for me but if you are only playing cash then you might not make a big profit in the short term

    hope this helps, good luck!

How about if you consider yourself silly and greedy if you have more than 3% of your bankroll in play--- no offence meant, good luck

Withdraw to 5 buy ins for your usual level before each session, and put a 24 hour deposit limit of 5 more.

That way it's impossible to donk off more than 10 buy ins in a session. (you can adjust the amount according to your bankroll, a total of 10 wud work well for me)

U can just do that before every session, takes literally 1 minute to do.

Or u cud just stop being a wally.....   ;)

I think all this talk about 'improving BRM' is a bit pointless as you're either someone who can do it or not, some people just naturally have that gambly 'lets play high stakes with 50% of my roll' kamikaze approach whilst others have the self control to know they'll get to that level eventually and play it when they know a BI is only a small portion of their total roll.

Good luck anyway but doubt you can change your mindset that easily.

i have to agree with what loza says here if you have a win what i normally do is withdraw 75 percent of my winning i mean anything 3 figures or more then leave 25 per cent on there to play around with and dont mind to much if i lose because i have withdrawn a chunk of my profit if you leave your money on there theres always that temptation to play higher because u think your on a roll ive learn a very harsh lesson a while back so im more disciplined now my advice would be anything over a 3 figure with withdraw 75 per cent leave 25 per cent on there and start building again good luck at the table
