Help on Multi-tabling

edited December 2011 in Poker Chat
Hi all, I really struggle playing more than 4 tables, I find it really difficult to get any kind of reads, especially in tournies and generally play really bad. I notice tonight scotty77 is playing 16 cash tables, much respect for being able to do this! I am really trying to improve my cash game and would appreciate any words of advice on this subject, thanks!

Im sure im going against lots of opinions here when I tell you that to my logic multi tableing is not the way to go as to me it makes more sense to play your A game at the highest level you can manage and take advantage of players who even might be better than you but thier game may degenerate maybe 1 or 2% because of multying while in most situations 100% consentration is needed.

Works for me bud,   dont always believe the hype.

i dont think you will improve your cash game by increasing the number of tables you play. you will make alot of mistakes. stick to 4 tables and when you can comfortably play this amount and regularly win add another table and so on. I don't think you will find scotty 16 tabling cash very often, i assume hes just trying to cram the volume in for the points having not played much this month. more tables can often have a negative affect on your game. so i wouldnt be too worried about lack of abiltity to play more than 4 right now.

All it takes is practice and a decent set up.  I couldn't 16 table if I didn't have the dual monitors running for example.

It does take a while to get comfortable playing that many tables tho.

Also if you are an MTT player, I would advise against having too many up.  In cash games, you are gonna be playing against many the same opponents on multiple tables, and have done so for a long time too.

If you are looking to improve on your cash game, then starting on the basics first is more important.  Try and get some good solid reads on the regulars at the limit you play is a good start, as these will really help your decision making when playing a lot of tables.

In MTTs, there aren't as many grinders, so reads and game flow are a lot more important.  Also being aware of your stack/blind levels too are also really crucial.

I would say that for MTTs than 4 is more than enough....maybe 6 tables maximum.  Maybe play your usual 4 tournies and add in a low stakes DYM or so to try and get used to it.

One final point is that I think that my win rate probably goes down when I am playing 16 tables. I would say that my optimum is 8 to 10.  Like Hurst said I haven't really put a lot of volume in this month on the online cash tables hence why I stepped up the amount of tables I was playing.
