how to teach someone (the basics of) poker......without sounding like a bit of a know it all (when y

edited December 2011 in Poker Chat

I recently convinced a very good friend of mine to make the leap from the highs of free play poker to real money. He really enjoyed the game for what it is and so i suggested he play 2p 4p. He likes it alot but makes the same mistakes most of us made when we first started - especially if we migrated from play money.

- limping every hand he wants to play
- playing poor hands
- chasing with awful pot odds
- not understanding winning with bad play
- not raising or not raising by suitable amount
- slow playing aces, trips only to be outdrawn etc (actually he has been really lucky in this regard)

etc etc

All I want to do is stop him from losing the amount of money i did when i first played (and the paranoia of site fixing that follows) and teach him the basics. I just feel like I sound like an ******* if I tell him he should do xy or z because of reasons 1,2,3. think he gets annoyed too (i would)

I have sent him a link to a good poker learning site etc......is there any other way i can help him learn as he plays with out soundin like a pretntious idiot? (any jokes about those who can, do, and those who cant teach, will be smiled at)
