In Response to Re: C4P Changes - Sky deceptively lowers bonuses and rakeback for ALL players : Are you serious? I decide at the beginning of the day/week/month or whatever what my volume target will be and I quit when I reach it. As you should know this is a high variance game and therefore setting financial targets is dumb and will result in an unpredictable workload based on "running good or running bad" which brings me to your next point. "(more so if you are running well, less so if you are running bad)" Are you kidding me here? You must be. A good solid winning reg (that's a compliment btw) is talking about "riding the heater" and playing more when he is winning. That is potentially one of the stupidest things I have read today. point me to the part where i said i set any sort of financial target at the start of the month? no probs apology accepted.
your point about unpredictable workload is interesting. seeing as setting a points total is going to affect this just as much. if you plan on playing say a 3 hour session to earn 'X' amount of points. but after an hour you have become increasingly tilted which is affecting your winrate and more importantly your play. are you really going to sit there in that frame of mind to meet your points aim for the day?
At the risk of this going a mile off-topic (I just noticed that this is in the C4P thread) I think we'll just have to agree to disagree Posted by GLifUlose
tbf my point wasn't about lowering the target for this rake race, but more saying look I'm never going to achieve 60k points, if sky set individual targets then I'm much more likely to rake more. for example i usually rake 16k a month...if Dan said to me look if you make 28k next month then you get whatever gift/bonus etc then ofc it's much more of an incentive for me to grind.
with more than 2 days notice to the start of a month I could deffo do 60k points ez peze as long as there were games running all month and none of these 'unable to sit' errors.
I'm surpirsed anyone thought there would be changes that worsened skys bottom line lol
The system still doesn't reward the right type of players but w/e

Ladbrokes did exactly this for a few of their regs a while back including myself. It was a 3 month thing and the reward was a place for two people on their Poker cruise. It worked well, must be said. 60k is literally impossible for me... 20k would be my limit to even attempt...
Beaneh, as much as it does attract the wrong types of players, it will increase traffic, which can only be a good thing.
From talking to people I think the 60k challange applies to just a couple of players.

a game of the 6 max pokers does not start until 2 or more people are seated and being dealt in. unfortunately there is hardly any one on the site happy to both sit alone at a table AND then play when someone sits. 99% of the time they sit out and goon about like the biggest goons known to man.
A table isn't making rake until people start to play so why not reward table starters rather than incompetent buffoons? if someone sits in on a 6 max table with a single person waiting and then sits out until someone else arrives, they should be shot in the genitals (over and over until they stand up or post blinds and start the game).

Now your going into the world of the poker prop, totally diff ball game and highly rewarding if you are a winning player.
hes just basically saying that it is in the best interest of regs to start tables with each other in order to get the games running, but no one does because they are idiots
Hey thought I would add something to the thread seeing as I got a few mentions...
Clearly I play an exceptional amount of poker on this site for which I have my reasons, the main one being I just enjoy playing so much there’s not many things within reason I’d rather spend my time doing. The strategy of the game fascinates me and I enjoy the mental challenge each time I play.
In response to Stein saying that the rake race promotion is pretty much guaranteed to be won by myself, I strongly disagree. For a start I have never achieved 60,000 cash for points in one calendar month.
In September I had 26,274pts
October 4,689pts (Although yes I was in Thailand for 19 days of this month)
November 38,299pts
And December 39,305pts
These last two months I have played very intensely as partly due to injuries I couldn’t participate in other activities I usually enjoy, and in my opinion 60,000 points is very difficult and whoever achieves this target deserves what is undeniably a very generous bonus.I have been thinking over the last two days whether to take a shot at it and have decided I’ll try, but I certainly won’t definitively say I’m going to achieve the target. As I have experienced that playing so many hours of poker eventually you burn out and your game suffers because of that.As a result of sub- optimal play I have often incurred losses in excess of the value of the £3,000 package. Therefore I am not going to play for the sake of the package, and if I’m not playing well and not having fun I won’t play at all because I know the likes of simuk, Browndog and various others who play less volume will come into the games fresh and quite easily pick me off and make the game unprofitable for me as they often do.
As much as I enjoyed Stein’s analogy about Usain Bolt, it did make me chuckle, this rake race is far from a foregone conclusion and I appreciate Offshoots very true and open minded comments... I would say there is at least 10 people that could achieve this.If Scotty77 feels its attainable I believe him and therefore I’m sure many other 100nl regs could do it, Beaneh knows he can do it, I’m sure AJs Gerrard9 and Gliterbabe have come close, if not exceeded 60,000 points in a single month before.I also believe Launder, Offshoot, Runitsrann and Lolrasie could do it if they really wanted to.
So I’m going to see how it goes but if things go well I will achieve 60,000 points this month... my girlfriend will of course hate me and February 1st I’ll be on a flight out of here for a well earned rest!
Glad I made you chuckle Sam, now the good news - you don't need to make 60,000 points to win, you need only be the top scoring player.
If you earn more poker points than any other player in January you will win a prize bundle worth £3,000! If you earn over 60,000 points then you are guaranteed the prizes even if you're not the top earner.
Pryce's point of individual targets is a good one, had they took last Jans points total* for each of the top 30/40/50 cash players and doubled it for the target I believe they would have got a better response and a greater increase in rake that they are looking for. Any one of the 8 prizes in this promo could have been offered as a prize.
* An alternative could have been double or 150% of a players average 2011 months total.
A scheme tailored to individual players would imo be far more beneficial to both us as players and Sky than a broad brush promotion attainable by only a few. Sure it would take more time to design but I would have thought Sky Poker's best customers are worth a bit more effort?
With more thought and effort most players on the site could have been incentivised to rake more.
