Sit & Go's - People sat on "Away" fair?
Hi All,
Fairly new to Sky Poker but have been playing a few Sit & Go DYM's in between the decent tournaments.
One thing I have noticed that is really frustrating, is that quite a lot of people enter and then just sit on "Away" in the hope that other people wipe each other out and they end up in prize money without playing a hand.
Some will say they are making easy money, but we're on here to play poker not just to make money surely?

Sometimes you can just chip away at their stack and make easy chips, and if down to the bubble, if all other players see the game plan, you all just blind the Away player out, making a few chips in turn..
Can be a bit more frustrating when more than 2 are away.. I had 4 in one game and it was just a joke!!
Sometimes it can be down to connection issues, which would be unfair to punish them and disqualify them..
I've had this many times, losing connection and taking ages to re log in etc.. (over 10 minutes sometimes..)
I sometimes have to play away if the game has started and i'm in the middle of doing something else and need to finish that before continuing (toilet break/making a cuppa/annoying phone call/etc..)
But I always try to minimise these occasions.
Unfortunately, poker IS a way to make money, and not just a recreactional game, especially online..
So you get the grinders who player as many games as possible and use it to make a tax free living.
These will sometimes play the percentage game and for every one they lose whilst being away, they are likely to also win just as many. So they are not losing out. (it's a gamble)
If you see they are regular playing away, maybe keep a not that if you find them registered for the game before it starts, do not play in that game and just find another table..
I don't think it'll ever be punished or stopped as the legitimate reasons outway the negitives.
These Sit & Go's are fast paced all or nothings most of the time with people going all in every time you raise so the ones folding every hand tend to last longer.
this strategy can work in their favour at these levels, as raises are not respected,
and most of the time the AWAYs can cash with little or no play at all.
If their plan is not working, they always come back and shove with a good hand.
If your bankroll can cover it, try the £3 or £5 DYM's, raises get more respect at these levels.
I have only been playing these Sit & Go's a few days - It just seems there are tons that sit away and it's frustrating. I can stand 1 or even 2. But when there are 3 or 4 it makes the game so drawn out and boring.
You must find the patience to wait/blind out the AWAYs.
If all players recognise this, then it's easy cash for them, not the AWAYs.
Have a read of "The ABC of DYMs" by John Connor, in the BLOGS section.
Hopefully see a few of you in one of the big tournaments. I was in the UKOPS Main Event the other night, lasted over 250 hands but only dealt 4 or 5 that were playable and beat on 3 of those so the law of averages says my luck will return (albeit eventually).
Have a good day.
gives you half a chance carl
lol
To give you a comparison; On Betfair, on all markets you get people staking thousands on odds of 1.01 regardless of the event, race, whatever. They do so because more often than not, if a market leader reaches odds of 1.01 (in fact almost always) their bet wins. They have no interest at all in the sport/event they are betting in.
My argument in this case is that, sure, people can choose to do what they will with their money..... But personally I am here to enjoy the game of poker (money doesn't really bother me, only the thrill of winning at a game I enjoy) and people sat away (by choice) just bore me and thus makes the game less enjoyable.
I feel I've been reasonable in putting my point across so I'd appreciate if the petty, crass responses were kept to yourselves. Open forum? Yes. Excuse to be rude? No.
In Response to Re: Sit & Go's - People sat on "Away" fair?:
If you read the above post you called somebody a moron, this is rude right ?
As for the "it bores me" , somebody could sit and fold every hand and take 10 seconds to do so, thus would be much more boring than sky snap folding the away players? yes it's an open forum, but if you post a (in my opinion, and clearly many others) ridiculous thread. You are going to get "petty" answers.
