The luck vs skill debate...

edited January 2012 in Poker Chat
has been settled decisively tonight by me winning a spot on Team Sky Poker.

I qualified by playing a lot of low stakes Omaha MTTs. I haven't played any hold'em except freerolls in months as I consider myself to be really bad at it. Despite all that I finished in the top 6 against 86 of the best players on Sky Poker, many of whom make a living playing hold'em.

Poker is all luck.

QED

I believe they pay your buy-in into a £1000 live event... and you get a nice hoody and maybe even a hat lol.

By the way, that's mega impressive to have qualified in the top 30 MTTers from purely Omaha. You must be killing the games.

I'm not one to brag, but I did spin up £200 into about £900 mostly playing the £1.10-£5.50 PLO and PLO8 MTTs over the last 6 months. I think some, if not all of the PLO MTTs get double league points and since for a long time most of them had less than 10 runners I had a lot of top 3 finishes, so plenty of league points. I think sometime in November I was second only to Sikas in the MTT table.

Wow, I didn't know they got double league points...you've leaked your secret now Giants lol.

Congrats on that spin up though.

Strangely enough the majority of my league points came from Omaha hilo too. I had a very poor run at holdem and the omaha points just let me creep into the playoff, as well as keeping my bankroll healthy.

Very well done giant, i missed this who are the other 5 who made ittt?

wp fella, enjoy the 3 months and gl in whatever big live MTT they put you in!

P.S, the skill in poker is consistently making the right plays EV wise, i.e getting all in as favourite, bluffing at the right time, making enough chips early on in a tourney to go deep ect.

The luck part is holding when your ahead/winning when your behind.

Amazing you can get that many points just playing omaha MTTs  .
Congrats for making the team .

Thank you all, I ran great all night and managed not to mess it up.

Very unlucky Ludovician, hope you get it next time.

I still can't believe it, but it looks like the first time I will ever play live will be a £1k buy-in tournament. Unreal.
