An 'old' new hand

edited January 2012 in Poker Chat
Hi Tikay et al,

Have to say I havve been playing since before 'night nurse' was first on our screens but have always treated it as an easy pastime and really enjoy the banter = even the less complimentary ones, allowing myself 10-15 quid a month to have a bit of R&R

Have decided to try to take it a little more seriously so any tips u have on turning my poultry bankroll into mega money would be appreciated.

Don;t think of myself as a fish, more an amphibian trying to take its forst steps on dry land :)

What type of games do you like/want to play?  MTTs, Sit n Gos, or Cash?

Have already found that cash is too xpensive/dangerous, sticking mainly to low Sit n Go  or if feeling adventurous - or had a couple of gd wins - venture into the £2 bounty hunter 'cos it can be a couple of hours of trying to cash and enjoy the 'pressure of trying to get my stake back

Ok Sit n Gos are definitely a good way to get your feet under the table and practice the basic skills of the game. Few very basic tips which you may already know.

    1. Avoid limping pre flop, if you're hand is good enough to play then raise, if it's not good enough to raise, then fold.

    2. Especially in Sit and Gos, always keep track of how many big blinds you have and how many everyone else has. If you have 10BBs, which is say 1000 chips when the blinds are 50/100, you don't really have enough chips to raise pre flop and then fold at any point in the hand, so when you are that low, you need to commit yourself.

    3. Ideally you want most of your hands to be 'in position', where you have the dealer button, or you're sat 1 seat anti-clockwise to it.
