Bluffy Bluffy - Feedback on Play

edited March 2013 in The Poker Clinic

With first hand

I min raise UTG, completely miss flop. I fire out a 1/2 pot size bet on the Flop, 1 caller, turn is a brick i check, i think thats my 1st mistake. I need to double barrell here?? On river i put in a stupid half pot bet, nothing at all has really changed on the river. I have positon, when oppo checks i was thinking I can take this down here, therefore the half pot bet. If i bet more on river, oppo might possibly fold.

Do i need to fire on the turn, and bet bigger on river?

why are we bluffing without reads?
  • edited March 2013

Also, meant to say, KJ UTG just fold? Or ok to min raise?

The_don, because it is the only way to win the pot.

I would either double barrell here or give up, all depends on how I read the villan here.  As played, if I was in villans position, I would be calling a half pot bet on the end with most of my calling range on that flop.

This early on I would tend to fold KJ utg at this blind level.  As always depends on your reads of the other players

We need reads knowing our opponent can fold hands that beat us. We still have 2.8k in an mtt @ 25/50 blinds. Mtts are about keeping our stack. Its not like cash where we can hit reload 100BB. This is why so many MTT players struggle in cash, and vica versa. I include myself in that btw.

We also are repping nothing, so a decent player probably can snap off with most hands we beat.

Dont get me wrong im not saying dont bluff, but we need reads and we need to be repping something. Tell my why i should fold say KT here?

Cheers CENA, yeah i need to bet big on river, even still with his hand i think it's still a call given the action.

I need to keep barrelling or give up after flop.

2nd Bluff,  i need to put in a disclaimer here i never bluff!! with the exception of these 2 hands

With this hand, i BB flop straight draw, bet out, re raise call call. Check the turn, when it goes check check. When King drops, i felt it was a brilliant spot to bluff and put opponents on straight draw/ weak hand. Fired a 3/4 pot bet and it gets through. I was quite confident the bet was getting through, tho dont know if i should be bluffing where if im called, im sitting with a short stack.

Good shout, to be fair i didn't have reads, it was just a bad spot for a bluff. Normally when a bluff goes in it is situational, but your spot on it was a bad spot to do a big chunk of my stack early doors.

The turn is a horrible card to barrel. Ok it brings in the flush but pretty much 100% of what called you on the flop will call the turn too. You need to think about which cards are good to barrel and which aren't. For instance if you c-bet on.... 78J , the turn is an A, that's a great card to barrel because he won't be calling with alot of Ax hands on the flop, it's an overcard to any pair he might hold, and especially if he's called the flop with 2nd pr or 3rd pr, he's gonna just cut his losses now.

Given the same board 78J, if the turn is a 3, if he was happy calling the flop with A8, he'll probably call the turn too.

FWIW, the 2nd hand I think you should just give up on the end. You've seen the flop for free, donkbet 3way with the OESD which I think is fine, and you've been clicked back. I'd be checking down hoping to make the straight for free or fold, and continue depending on action if the Q falls. On the river, you're risking a big chunk of your stack with no real idea what your opponents have and can easily get snapped off by so many hands.
