Puressence were an awesome group who came about a year too late really. Shame. 

Interpol are also massively underrated, in my opinion. Saw them live at the London Astoria about 3 years ago in a spur of the moment gig, and it was immense.

Oh, and for the benefit of Scotty who likes Regina Spektor (another awesome shout, btw), there's this lass from Malta. Just won Best Songwriter and Best Female at the Maltese Music Awards, which is a small sample size I know... but still, she's good. Think Kate Bush/Tori Amos/Regina Spektor and you're barking up the right musical tree:
