ace - x suited utg in a cash game.

edited June 2013 in The Poker Clinic
first to act and you have ace 2-10 suited, raise or fold?

its obviously a great nut making hand, but also a very difficult post flop hand...

just wanting opinions on what other people do with them hands from UTG

Depends what mood I'm in and how many chips I have left etc. if im 15-20bb I probably fold.  Less than 15 im probably shoving (unless it's bubble time or I fancy a better spot).  If im chip leader on the table im probably raising.

It's all situation dependant for me.

EDIT - i've just read the title... you mean in cash.  Well then I have no idea!  Im useless at cash!

Depends on table dynamics but in general if utg i just open fold A2ss through to A10ss, you will just put yourself into too many awkward decisions

agree with KKrippler tbh. on some tables we can open but i think we have to have a huge edge post flop

I tend to just open fold it, its just when you just get a caller its the most awkward hand to play.. I wonder if its more profitable just folding it in the long run

    I'm not so nitty :p

It does depend on the table but 6max I'm opening A2-A5s and A9s+ definitely unless they're are some really tough opponents in the CO/BTN area, A6-A8 is a bit meh, prob fold.

Obviously depends how good you are postflop though, because we're virtually always gonna be playing OOP and it's not always gonna make our life easy, doesn't mean it can't be +EV tho.

totall dependant on your table if table quite soft I`m opening these hands but if i`m at a reg fest table may just fold them most of time because I will be put under a lot of pressure by getting 3bet or oop post-flop vs a good player.

think it`s wrong for people saying just fold them and only play aj+ from utg just sounds nitty to me especially at 6max if 10 handed totally understand playing a10/aj+utg, but I may just be too loose at times but a feel confident post-flop so I don`t mind opening these hands in cash.

and one reason why i never play any A-9 suited from utg. or utg+1 lol
pretty much all the advice i got was  fold pre-flop  fold pre-flop  etc, etc.
    hope this helps.
