CGoldie's grinding diary! (£1180 current)

    Hi all,

I'm going to start a new diary as I just moved back to sky after not playing poker for a long time.

    MOTIVATION
I have a few motivations for doing a diary, it helps me keep track of my progress, it helps me concentrate better as I don't want to post bad results and last but not least hopefully it might help others or at least be something to read.

    THE GAMES
Going to mainly be playing 5.50 dyms during the week due to time constraints and mtts at the weekend. Hopefully moving up in stakes and mixing in cash games as my BR allows.

    GOALS
My very first goal is to get back on form I'm rusty and only marginally profitable over about 30 dyms.
After that my goals for the end of this month are:
    £250 BR
    3000 points

My long term goals are to get enough to cash out around £1000 for a nice holiday and have enough left to play. Satellite to a live event and eventually maybe get 10k points a month for priority.

    STARTING ROLL
To kick things off I deposited £20 and got £60 free and £16 profit after some initial play.
    £96
    BR400 points

Wish me luck and anyone feel free to post questions, suggestions, spam or whatever you wish =)

Thanks guys! I'll make sure to read your diary to kevod.

Well first session started off good playing 4nl on my dinner winning £4-5 and playing 6 tables of 10NL after work for £15.

After that things went horribly down hill playing the 5.50 DYM's for a total result of:
    W 10
    L 12

To be fair I didn't play great to loose early and a bit to tight late on. I do have to blame variance a bit though as I seemed to lose way more flips than I won!

Also played a 5.50 200GTD as it didn't look like it was going to fill. Got reduced to 10 chips after playing one hand, the guy seemed fishy and got him all in on a Q high flop with KQs vs Q9o and he rivered a 9! Somehow managed to get those 10 chips up to 300, talk about a bad time to have good luck!

Hopefully can storm into the £££ this weekend with DYM's and MTT's and maybe some cash games.

Some more 4NL/8NL/10NL on my dinner, pretty much a reg fest at that time with not much action. Manged to up the BR to £98 though. Played an interesting hand towards the end, quite a loose player pre and very tight vs post flop aggression so I decided to try this with the idea of showing aggression pre and making a play for the pot on the river. He's probably got a good range of Q's and flush draws in his range with not to many 2 pair or trips with the half ish pot bets which should make the bet work the majority.

Let me know what you guys think :)

    Brilliant night overall!

Started off plaing a few DYM's and registering for 2.20-5.50 tourneys, I know I shouldn't do £5.50 MTT's on £98 but I was willing to take a chance and play until I was at £55 allowing myself 10 £5.50 DYM's and move down at £33 if the plan went horribly wrong!

Started off bad MTT wise dropping off on a lot including the £3k rebuy (defo shouldn't be playing that with the BR!) but hung in and got a few cashes and a load of losses:

    9th 200GTD £11
    8th 250GTD 17.50
    4th 250gtd BH £20

So annoying being really close to the good moneys! Also got 6W, 4L on DYM's, not great but beats last times loss! Was getting a bit sad because I could see my BR dwindling slowly and getting late in some tournies for only small cashes.

Manged to turn it around later though continuing with a long running £600GTD and a bunch of later night MTT''s  for finally not just final tables but 3 wins on the trot. I say on the trot but of course I had about 4-5 non cashes in between =).

    1st 100GTD BH SPEED £85
    1st 30GTD BH SPEED £51
    1st 600GTD BH £150

Making the total night a profit of over £250 which should now give me a lot more room MTT wise without having to worry about my BR getting to low.

Also on another note is anyone else a fan of the late night MTT's 12am-2am? I quite like the fact they get fewer entrants making them more like multi table SNG with lower variance.

    Current Standings:
    £354 BR
    864 Points

Ok lates start with Saturday a bit of a dead day. Decided to try a play style change and play super aggro! Meant I was primarily knocked out early on in tournies but had big stacks on ones I weren't. I wouldn't recommend it overall for early play in small field tournies like skys but obviously it's worth it late game when everyones short stacked vs huge blinds.

began playing a bunch of cash and sats defo not my A game but won a seat to the £55 bounty semi which I bubbled! Misread stacks when the lobby didn't update and didn't push when I should have!

a few cashes but mainly fails, won £66 in bounties in the main event which was fun playing the super aggro style.

    Overall pretty much break even:

    £359 BR

Sunday better dropped my super aggro atyle after losing some more games and went back to a regular TAG style in general.

Managed to make the SPT semi from a sat and then got 0 cards and lost half my stack, finally pick up AA and get called by A2 from a smaller stack and lost! Downhill from there losing with jk vs qq last hand, no tour for me yet!

got a nice 2nd in a £400Gtd £11 BH for £120 boosting my BR back up to £330 after a bunch of small cashes and losses over the day.

Best tourney though was 10th in the primo for £260! Did well and defo played well enough to have made the final table with a bit more luck! Will post the final hand tommorow and my thoughts and how unlucky it was lol.

Not my first, but my first deep run in one =). I try to get into a mindset of I won't cash in many tournaments so I don't worry to much about being knocked out :)

My final hand as promised, stopping just shy of the big money that could have sent my BR into the £xxxx!

In retrospect I should have just shoved after his 4 bet, I'm not sure why he's even playing the hand let alone the 4 bet as I wasn't 3 betting anything that he can get good odds against.

I checked the flop hoping he might spew and shove a small pair or 2 overcards. On the turn I wanted to make it look like I was spewing and could get called off much worse including AK etc. The only hand I was really worried about was 88, I think he would have probably just shoved QQ+ pre, did not expect to see a7 lmao.

It's an unfortunate flop for you but its shove or fold pre.

Been a while since I posted I keep forgetting =)

Been some real ups and downs playing mainly £5.50, £11 and some higher MTT.

After hitting £595 hit a huge downswing going down to £300! Half my roll gone, sounds like a massive swing but when your playing MTT's 20-50 BI swings can happen and you have to just solider on I guess and move down if required. Without playing DYM's anymore I have nothing to supplement my losses like I used to!

Managed to pull it back up to £550 a couple nights ago with some good cashes and then a couple 2nd places last night brought it up to £743!

I have a feeling it could dip again playing the ME's and £11 BI's this week but hopefully it will go up =)

Mines pretty slow as i,m a bit of a BR nit but you seem to have got off to a flying start with some good wins already.
My only advice would be BRM and not to get to carried away when your winning. Be confident but don,t think your invicible and be preapared for those downswing esp in MTT,s and realise when to step up or down according to your roll

    Thanks,

Yeah I'm being a bit more liberal than most with my BR for sure =). As painful as it is I'm prepared to move down in stakes or field size if my BR takes a hit. When I was down to £300 ish last time I started playing the smaller field £5.50's nad 2.20-3.30 bigger fields more and avoiding the £11's and ME's. So far it's off to a good start but the swings are definetly painfull considering not cashing in just 10 in a row can dent my BR by £55-£110!

One thing that never seems to really get mentioned to often in BRM is that moving down in field size playing MTT's can be as effective as moving down in stake e.g. moving down from £5.50 200-300 player BH's down to £5.50 50-100 player regular tournaments on sky.

Fair point . Never really looked or thought of it like that

Another good night after my downswing I mentioned!

2nd in a £5.50 200GTD for £48 and 2nd in the 3000GTD £11 rebuy for £500, wasn't going to rebuy but took the add on as I was doing pretty well.

That brings me up to £1180 after fee's for various tournaments. Really tempted to play tonights £55 ME BH and the Super Roller but I think that would be getting carried away but I will continue to try and satellite to these bigger events.

It's really tough for me to sattellite on weekdays as by the time I get home from work it's 7:30pm and I don't start playing until 8-9pm. I wish the satellites where the day before during the evening as well!

Just shy of my 3k Points target now to get the juicy £45 bonus I was aiming for. Done way better than expected for my months BR target after totally ditching my plan to play DYM's and going for MTT's instead. Now I need to figure out what my targets and plan is for next month, any suggestions?
