Isnt your poker hero Phil Hellmuth????!!!!!!!!

    ---------------------------------------

Saw 'Lukas' was out this morning but this thread gave me hope that it might have been a typo :(

Difference between Luke and PH is that Luke doesn't care about reputation, he has a go at/borderline abuses winning/respected players,

Hellmuth abuses fish, or people he thinks are fish/weaker than him.

1 is a zillion times worse than the other imo.

If your definition of legend is arogant petulant imbilcile then I concur.

    This.

The guy seems to be extremely straight-up too, imo. Never heard a bad thing about his poker ethics. Bar his brash approach at the table, his ettiquette is actually pretty damn good.

I see no reason to bash on someone for calling people out, boasting ones' talent, or trash talking their opponents at the tables, all with reasonable justification. The guy doesn't give players abuse because he wants to get to them on an emotional level, and that maybe this will tilt them, or give him an edge he wouldn't otherwise have. He singles out pros that in his eyes, get unsupported respect, attention, or praise, and isn't afraid to upset a few fanboys (or even some of his fellow 'colleagues') to stand by what he believes is right.
I respect him deeply for that.

The guy (calcal) made a remark that is somewhat unjustified, and heavily subjective. One that I personally for the most part disagree with.

That doesn't mean you should attack him on a personal level for having a difference of opinion, so long as he's not harming anyone based on those beliefs. Even it is a little on the extreme side.
Even if we accept the concept that he really doesn't have a good word to say about anyone. Sinking to his level does you no good whatsoever. Okay, maybe he's wrong and potentially a little out of line, but you should try and refrain from retaliating on an emotional level.

Rise above it and challenge him on why he's of the belief that Luke is a bit douchey. Maybe then these threads on Sky will involve a little more open-minded discussion, rather than slating one another because so-and-so doesn't like what I like.
Learn and educate each other ffs. Heck, PM each other if you want a slanging match, just not here in a public forum.

im not bothered why he thinks luke is douchey, its his opinion and hes entitled to it, it was more his comments in general, he has yet to make a comment which is not either insulting to the original poster or sarcastic in someway, i have no time for people like this so the last thing i want to do is debate anything with him.

Yes... I admire Phil Hellmuth because of his amazing record despite being unorthadox in poker style. He is entertaining. I don't believe there is any malice in what he does.

Luke is also entertaining and direct, but his arrogance, even if it is false arrogance, is not justified in the same way as Hellmuth imo. Where are his 13 bracelets?

I am all for characters in poker, it makes it fun and more interesting, but there is a fine line between being an idiot and a genius... :)

He refused to pay for his sandwich and had a big row about it, getting banned from a large chain of UK Casinos?

I mean, this is the sort of arrogance that is unjustified. Noone is above paying for a sandwich, it is not as if he couldn't afford it!

The point is, malice or not, "crossing the line" versus recreational players is completely different. Whether Phil is intending to harm recreational players doesn't/shouldn't retract from the actions themselves.
Phil will berate a rec. for playing a hand poorly, and I shouldn't have to reel off the many reasons why this is in almost every way, a bad thing. I admire Phil's record sure, as do most people. But admiring him as a person? Definitely not.

What if you were just having a kick-about with Wayne Rooney, and then he started to verbally abuse you for your comparitively poor football skills. It's obvious to everyone that he's the superior footballer, and the comments (whether they're intended to be harmful or not) are way out of line considering you're just trying to have fun.
But if Wayne were to do the same to... let's say, Christiano Ronaldo. Now, professional vs professional, it's obvious that the primary reason they partake in that sport, isn't solely to enjoy themselves, but to make money. And, (arguably) to prove that they're among the best in their field. Rooneys comments would now be seen as slightly tongue in cheek, but more so a "You're good, but you're over-rated. You're nowhere near as good as me". It's an effort to prove himself in his field, to challenge someone who likewise, believes they're the better player.

Hellmuth berating recs is not in the interest of anyone but himself. They're there to have fun, and Phil is taking that away from them when he abuses players for being of lesser ability than him.
Luke berating pros is a form of him standing up for himself, an attempt to inform people about the true ability of some players, and no doubt for a little self-enjoyment too.

Cliff notes, announcing "Pro /> Amateur!!" is childish. This is obvious.
Announcing "Pro /> Pro" is more about competition, as this is not obvious who is the better player.

Also, lol at the ol' 13 bracelets comment. Luke would absolutely destroy Phil HU, as would a majority of 200nl grinders.

There isn't a fine line between idiocy and genius either, quite the opposite imo.
