Playing with a Shortstack at Cash practice for MTTs?

edited July 2013 in The Poker Clinic
A while ago, 10ngy used to sit down at the 2p-4p tables with £1.20 the minimum buy in.

I did it a couple of times too, just to see what it was like! The goal was to turn £1.20 into a fiver lol

Just wondering is this a useful way of practicing playing with a Shortstack for the middle-late stages of a MTT?

Not really. Purely because people generally play the 2 games differently. In a cash game if you have 30xBB, a lot more people are happy to take a bit more a gamble with you than they normally might because they can just reload. Where as in an MTT, if you have 30xBB, you'll usually be playing with players who have around a similar stack, maybe as low as 10xBB, maybe as high as 50xBB and things like them not wanting to bust out make an impact.

dunno if i`m wrong her but if you want to pratice playing a short stack and want to improve for mtts maybe dyms/stts because when you get near bubble in these formats you will be pretty short so have to be able to find spots and learn what hands to shove/call with in certain situations.
