Exit hand from MTT- Just after the bubble

edited July 2013 in The Poker Clinic
I had 10 bigs, everyone is quite short, 12 left, most players have 10-15 Bigs.

Small blind has been stealing quite a few blinds, with the min raise, i shove with 4-8.

To be fair, didnt think he could call. Is this the right play? Or bad play?

    Larson,

    Fold.

When you find yourself shortstacked and needing to shove. Count how many hands you have (including the next bb). Then each hand you get dealt, ask yourself if you are likely to get a better hand before being on the bb. If yes then fold. If no then proceed to shove.

Will leave the aspct of your cards here because you know you have junk and are just hoping for a fold.

The point i will focus on is bubble play. This comes in 2 parts just before the bubble you should be loosening up because people are trying to get a cash and are playing tighter.

The second part is the relevant part in this hand. Just after the bubble bursts and people have got a cash locked down they open up totally and start trying to quickly amass chips to make an assault on the tournament/ final table. This is the time when you need to tighten up and play a smaller range. You will get called a lot lighter in these spots and so you dont want to go to war with a bad to marginal hand here.

Though laddering is never a great strategy in mtts. Just after the bubble bursts you can easily find yourself laddering up 1 or 2 levels just by folding junk hands when everyone is getting very active.
