he raised with it so he could see the flop cheap.  if he doesnt get re raised he sees the flop for a good price with a hand with potential.  a lot of players (mostly weak) do this.  his hope is you all limp in behind and he sees the flop for 100 rather than having to limp call a raise to 250 for example.

when you reraise and it comes back to him he is priced in to call.

the flop then plays itself...against 99 he is only a 45/55 underdog.  so against the very top of your range (AA) he is only a 2/1 underdog.

looks like he played the hand ok tbh.  maybe you should think about how highly you are valuing a mid pair like 99.  i know you have an overpair but you're not unbeatable in that spot....why did you try to make the pot so big with sucha  marginal hand?

    standard stuff

I think this is just standard stuff. He has a playable if somewhat weak hand, and common sense dictates that anyone raising UTG must have a really strong hand. So he is showing great strength with his raise. Your raise was terrible in this situation because it wasnt enough to price out marginal holdings and you probably thought that at best you would be racing with the UTG player. I much prefer the way he played this hand than you did because until the cards were turned over you had no real idea what cards he was playing. You very much showed your hand with your bets but when the big bet came in he had so many outs that there was no way he was folding.

You should be careful when playing medium PP because they are too vulnerable unless they set up. In this instance your opponent had played strong and could easily have a bigger PP or lower and have setted up.If you going to raise in this situation again you need to make it more meaningful which will stop people playing these hands against you.
