JJ what should i do now

edited August 2013 in The Poker Clinic
with JJ the last thing I was wanting is 4 caller especially with me being the BB so I did a massive bet. the problem now is because the flop is 10 high and I still have 3 I am guessing right away that they are probably loose.
what is the best option I should do now

Raise way more pre. 4 limpers, should be closer to 200 than 100.

Absolutely have to bet this flop. If we still get 3 callers then proceed with caution. Cbet should at least thin the field out somewhat. A decent cbet sets us up to jam most safe turn cards. If we've been outflopped then gg nh etc

More pre, bet flop, get it in if raised
  • edited August 2013

Raise around 140-160 c-bet flop 65% then get it in to a raise, you may well have someone hit a set against you here but too difficult to fold an what has to be seen as wuite a dry board.

     Slight perception problem preflop.

You say that you did a massive raise. At this blind level a standard raise is to 3x bb plus 1bb per limper. Which means that a standard raise would be to 120 and so you in fact did a weak raise and not a massive raise.

This just means that you have encouraged the first limper to call and therefore all of them to call because of the inflated pot you have created oop. No hands have been defined preflop because of this and you are now playing multiway oop against 3 unknowns.

Prewflop raise for me should be to at least 160 to get rid of the limpers or at least give yourself a chance to thin them down a bit.

As to what to do on that board. You are up against total unknowns here on a board that offers draws. All you can really do is put in a chunky bet and then reassess when the action follows you.

But issue in this hand is not the flop but preflop.

the question I would like to ask then is was I poor with the bet on the flop
that resulted this guy calling with the GS because unless the turn was any A K Q 10 or diamond I was going to get it in.

finally on the turn was it the right decision to ship the turn?
it might have give a gut shot but out of all 97 I only thought 9d7d  I know 108s might have been possible but my bet on the flop was to make it easy to put them on a decent hand which I still beat such as A10-J10 or two high cards.

it might sound like I was wanting weak hands to fold but it's hard enough knowing what is best when an A K or Q comes with JJ so really the last thing I wanted weak pair weak kicker calling.

At small blind levels i would raise to 100 without any limpers, with i would make it 180. Bet closer to pot on the flop and shove turn for what would then be less than pot.

It's a pretty poor call from the villain, and they got very fortunate.

But we need to look at our play. Pre should be a raise to about 200 I think. If we were in position, then we could argue making it a tad less, but we're not. If you make it 200, and still get 3 callers, then you're looking at a pot of just over 800 chips. Flop comes 10 high, doesn't get much better than that for JJ in a multi way pot. But it is draw heavy, so we'd have to bet strong; 650/700. This makes the pot 1500, give or take, and we can play for stacks on this flop with anyone holding a 10, or a flush draw happy to go for it knowing they have no fold equity.

As much as I dislike villains play, your hand looks exactly like it is, a premium pair, and know they'll get the lot if they can spike an 8 on the turn. Better players than me will tell you if he had the correct odds or even implied odds (I sense not).

Have to agree with the general consensus.

Pre is way too small. I'd make it 160-200 at least.

I would also pot the flop to make turn shove easy to call.

I think its a pretty cold deck in the end but only problem i see is bet sizing. Slightly bigger pre and on flop and you can get it in on the turn without overbetting. I think you maybe have to look at stack to pot ratios a little earlier in the hand.

from what I have been reading from people weather it's from this the straight or the selection, I am getting a feeling that in MTTs I am just too passive at the minute.

where my problem could be lying is that my cash tables being nl4 have very few that are likely to have a full chip stack generally all I have are villians who will join with a maximum chipstack of £2-£3.20 also i have been able to bet 20p preflop the cbet 24p-30p post flop weather i hit or miss this hand for example 3 callers preflop then out of nowhere i got them all folded even with middle pair weak kicker. what you could say is sometimes it is easy to act like a bully although they have seen a bit more maniacs recently who just shove anything.

as i will only be on the micro MTT should i stay in a similar way to how i usually would play the micro cash.
in other words not like these hands but instead should i do 5xBB+limpers preflop then a full pot bet post flop with hands such as AA-JJ and AKs AQs
