Sky Poker Forums is upgrading its look! Stay tuned for the big reveal!

New software, new beginning.

edited September 2013 in Poker Chat

As I have posted on several threads before I have had real problems with lag and been unable to play on SKY as a result. I said in several of these threads that once the software improved I would be back.
So here I am, I have been able to easily play 3 cash game tables at the same time tonight and hence I have returned to the cash tables.
I will be starting a new diary to celebrate this return and will be focusing on the nl10 tables for the time being,

 Session Profit = £2.53
 Session BB/100 = 7.2

 Overall Profit = £2.53
 Overall BB/100 = 7.2

 Bankroll = £202.53

(not sure if the software has properly been released yet or not? they might take it down and then re-add it, so you may have to take a break soon! ;))

I do have a relatively short attention span.
Ideal for the game of poker, lol.
Going to really, really try to stick to this one, but can't promise.

Played a couple of hours of 3-tabling 10nl and played pretty well.
Found a lot of limping at this level, which has surprised me.
I have been able to take advantage by playing quite aggressively when in position.
Not sure whether this is a trend at this level or just a one-off tonight, hopefully for my benefit it will appear to be a trend.
Last but one hand I played, see below, was the difference between profit and loss tonight.
Perhaps should have folded the river but when I saw how little it cost and potential reward made the call, perhaps looking back this was a bit of a fishy play. What would you have done.

Should be a copy of hand here but cannot for the life of me get the hand history to look right, even though I have done it numerous times before.

     HELP!!!!!!!!!

regarding the jj hand I like to raise the donk bet here it`s a wet board so want to build pot to get max value and charge them to hit, also want to protect my hand.

but as played think you could bet turn a little bigger maybe £3.50+ maybe they still call but just getting more money in the pot long term that counts.

    but ul in the hand.

Played a couple of hours 2 tabling 10nl. Only 2 tabling as currently on hols in Cornwall and just playing a couple of hours on an evening when we're having a quiet night in. Internet connection is not the best and struggles with more than 2 tables. Played very solid tonight and made few mistakes which gave me a decent return over the 2 hours. Definitely think I have the game to beat 10nl and need to concentrate on getting my bankroll up to £400 so I can get back to the 20nl tables asap.
Have to say Cornwall is a lovely place when the sun is out and it makes a change from the usual 2 weeks of all inclusive indulgence around a pool in 40C heat. Staying on the beach at Porth, just outside Newquay and have even ventured into the sea most days to do a spot of body-boarding. Been on a couple of drives out and seen St Ives, extremely busy and reminded me of a posh Whitby, Padstow, Port Issac and the rather dissappointing Lands End. Tomorrow off to a Seal Sanctuary in the morning followed by a few pints of Cornish Bitter whilst watching the footie in the afternoon and early evening. After all it is the first day of a new season.
On the footie front I am expecting a more stable season from the Villa and think midtable and a decent cup run is what we can look forward to, the only worry being our incredibly tough start of Arsenal away, Chelsea away, Liverpool home. Just hope the possible situation of nil points from 3 games dosen't destroy confidence. Just a tip for your fantasy teams Andi Weissman, been on fire pre-season and has the makings of forming a great partnership with the Beast Benteke.

A very quick update before the joys of watching MOTD and Villa's magnificent win at the Emirates. Honextly didn't see that coming, especially after 6 mins. Looks like Lambert might have actually got Gabby back to his best, lets hope this is the season he does it week in, week out.
Anyway played my ussual 2 tables of 10nl and played OK apart from a couple of hands where I was far too aggressive and fired 3 bullets holding nothing, only to get called all the way down. Without those 2 hands I would have turned a tidy profit. Lesson to learn is aggression doesn't always pay.
For those interested never got to the Seal Sanctuary as weather was monsoon like in Cornwall today, going to retry tomorrow.

Played on a couple of mastercash tables, namely 1 and 2.
Really pleased with how I played, not so much the way I played, as I still made some silly mistakes, but more the way I turned the session around. I was down about £16 after an hour and getting completely owned by pokey2011. 6 months ago I would of got majorly frustrated and ended up blowing £40-£50. Tonight, however, I knuckled down and played the most mature poker I have probably ever played on the cash tables. This resulted in me turning a profit and not because of luck but because of the way I played.
     VERY SATISFYING.

Managed to get to the Seal Sanctuary as the weather bucked up and have to say although not the biggest visitor attraction it is certainly a very worthwhile cause.
Spent the afternoon looking around Falmouth and as me and our lass are looking to move down to the south-west in 5 years time I can say Falmouth is now vying for top possible location alongside Exmouth. Found it to be a very nice town and has the pulling power of a very busy and diverse waterfront, made up of small sailing vessels and large tanker ships. I am sure Tikay could easily spend a day sat on a bench looking at the tanker ships and sailing yachts go by.

     Bit gutted tonight.
Still in Cornwall playing on a really dodgy internet connection and this has probably cost me £20.
Was in the middle of the hand below when connection gave up. Re-raised All In but didn't register, pretty sure would have got the call as more than likely up against nut flush or possible smaller house.
Decided to play Main and Mini and ended up with a 98p profit across the two.

Off to The Eden Project tomorrow. Not quite sure what to expect but think it is something we need to do as a family. It just seems that it is something you need to experience if you are in Cornwall, just to say you've done it. It would be a bit like going to London but not visiting Buckingham Palace, strange how the mind works.

Watched a couple of really good programmes last night. One was on the crashing of Air France Flight 447, makes you realise how much technology rules our world, and one was on the Falkland's War most daring raid, makes you realise how brave our Armed Forces personnel are. If you get chance to watch either I would highly recommend them.

Been 2 tabling 20nl tables tonight and one of them was a mastercash table. Have to say it was a very enjoyable table, not because I won, but due to the chat that was going on. Would like to say a huge thank you to the players who were on there this evening as the atmosphere on the table was really enjoyable with hands being discussed and all the chat of a very good nature. This is why I play on SKY and what makes the site so different to every other site I have played on.
Played a really interesting hand on this table, see below, which both myself, devil tear and sonnyboy discussed afterwards in the chat box. I have asked both these players if they were happy for me to post this hand and they both were happy to be named in this diary. The question I would like to ask people there opinion on is whether I was right to value bet the river.
My thinking is that if I was behind to either a full house or a bigger flush then 1 of the 2 players would have bet the river. As they don't I think it makes sense to value bet the river in the hope of getting called by a set or 2 pairs. devil tear's point of view was that I should be checking behind and value betting in this position is a long term losing play.

Went to Eden Project and have to say it blew me away. What an amazing place and unbelievable transformation from what was there before. It's one of those places that gives you an inner calm and is very inspiring, a bit like the feeling you sometimes get when you go into a church. Wish I lived on the doorstep as your day pass can be turned into a year's pass for no extra cost. Must be amazing to be able to go for a weekly walk round the place.
Also have to mention what good value and how nice the food on offer was. I had smoked mackerel on beetroot and soft cheese all on a bruschetta with salad and new potatoes, only £7.50 and well worth it. Kids and wife had homemade Quiche, salad and potatoes for £6.50. As my 14 yr. old daughter said it was the nicest quiche she ever had, and she is a big quiche fan, it must have been good.

On the footie front, yet again the smaller club get no decisions at the big club. Despite this have to be really happy with how Villa have started the season. Think that in Tonev and Okores we could have made 2 quality signings at a decent price. Delph has really come on this season and if he carries on the way he has started he will soon be knocking on the England door. Benteke's value just keeps going up and up, my only worry will be that it is going to be harder and harder to keep hold of him come January, never mind next summer.

Had a session this morning on 3 10nl tables. Played I thought really well, funny how I seem to play better in a morning. Maybe just more focussed and wide awake. A huge number of short-stackers seemed to be about today, don't know whether its a Sunday morning thing or just one of those days. Don't actually mind playing short-stackers as I find it is quite easy to bully them and they tend to get it in in less than optimal situations.
One interesting hand I played was the following. The villain is someone I would say is a very solid reg who I imagine more than holds there own at this level.
Should I be folding on the river. Looking back I probably should as what am I beating. So hard to put down though.
Will be playing again this evening, off to do some chores now. Garden to weed and grass to mow, 2 weeks away has it's downside. Car to clean, currently contains half of Porth beach.

Played one £6 sat into last night's main event and came nowhere. Then made the last min descision to go to pub so didn't play anymore yesterday.
Was going to have a serious session tonight but after playing the £500 freeroll and the Yellow team warm up and the huge session of 14 hands cash I have decided to call it a night and watch the footie instead. This is a good descision for me as I had a habit of just playing even when not in the mood and this would eventually cost me a couple of buy-ins. Think the reason I'm not in the mood is because I am back to work tomorrow after an 18 day break and the prospect of returning to the grind of every day living has not put me in the best frame of mind.
Roll on end of October when I have another week booked. Not got anything exotic planned and usually end up spending 4 or 5 days at my parents in Exmouth, Devon. Still it is a very enjoyable 4 or 5 days and something I look forward to, something about the English coast in late October that is really nice.

Had a pretty poor session in terms of profit tonight.
Only played on Mastercash 1 & 2 and through a combination of poor play, getting owned a bit by a couple of decent regs and a real lack of run good with the cards i lost a fair bit.
Couple of positives from tonight were I made a few decent notes on a couple of players, beware next time, and also a learning from Ross Jarvis on Ch 861 about the blocker bet being out of fashion these days. Note to myself - Stop using the blocker bet.
Would also like to apologise to the players on my table in the Yellow's premiership game tonight. Currently I have found that playing on the new cash game software I experience no lag whatsoever, the reason for my return to SKY. Unfortunately tonight as soon as the afore mentioned MTT started the whole of my SKYPoker went into serious lag. This left me with no alternative but to give up on the MTT. I tried by closing the table and just letting my blinds leak away, this didn't prove successful so I ended up having to go All-In on every hand until I busted the tourney. As I was continuously timing out this took longer than expected. So apologies to those involved.
For those interested I think I may have found a fun bet for tomorrow night's football at decent odds. There are 7 games in the Carling Cup tomorrow night and all of them look like they could have goals in. An accumulator on over 2.5 goals in all 7 games returns over 30/1. £5 invested, thank you very much.

Had a decent session tonight 3-tabling at 10nl. Played really well and only made 2 major mistakes. One was when I triple barrelled AK and the villain had a made flush on the flop costing me £15. The other was the hand below. What would you do in my position when you have notes on the villain that say 'seems very aggressive and capable of playing any 2'.
On the footie front a good win for Villa and was dreaming of the bluenoses in the next round, unfortunately we get a tough tie at home to Spurs.

Had a disastorous session on 29th Aug and felt myself going into mega tilt mode. Therefore decided it was time to have a break, hence the reason I have seemingly vanished. Overall details updated shown below. I shall now return to the tables with a new vigour and I am now in the right frame of mind to hopefully play some decent poker.

Really struggling to fit much paly in at mo but managed a very tiny session this morning. Didn't go well losing with a set over set for a full buy-in on the flop and then getting stubborn with a made set on the flop losing to a made straight on the turn.
