I'm assuming this isn't near the seat bubble.

Shove pre-flop.

We're playing 13.5BB and there's a min-raise in front of us. The pot is already big, relative to our stack, and we don't mind if it's folded and we take that dead money. We can also potentially be called by lots of worse hands when we're this shallow.

If we call and see a flop, there's a 50:50 chance that we'll see at least one overcard and we won't know whether that's a bad card for us or not.


On the flop, as played, we should just shove over the top of the half-pot bet. We want anyone with a bare heart draw to put the rest in now rather than give them the opportunity to get away if they miss on later streets. Our min-raise is always committing us to the pot anyway and the pot odds we're offering our opponent, coupled with the knowledge that we're never folding, allows our opponents to play really easily against us.

Obviously we've got to call on the turn.


Honestly, everything post-flop is largely irrelevant. The only relevant thing you should take from it is that min-raising after the flop is almost always a bad idea.

Pre-flop is the real issue and with anything below 15BB you should be in shove-or-fold mode. You can't afford to call to see flops with a stack like that. This should definitely be a pre-flop shove.

Hi Mr Loner.

Was early stages, only 8 runners, all still in, playing for 1 seat in spt semi.

Think the speed of the blinds caught me out.

Probably should of shoved pre, although I've been trying to play hands until nearer 10bb. Is this a mistake?

Looking at it now, I agree with you, should definitely of shoved on the flop.

I was confident my hand was ahead, a shove would of put pressure on opponent. My raise committed me to the pot anyway, without applying any pressure. Better he has the tough decisions.

Having said that when the chips all went in on turn I was still ahead. Opponent had 15 outs so I was still 2-1fav. Right?
