Ok, so this is obviously a situation that can come up a fair bit so I want to brush up on it. Basically my thinking on the flop was - what are they limp-calling/calling with preflop that's beating me? Neither are slowplaying a monster as they would have reraised preflop to isolate. KQ/AK/99 They'd have raised preflop. Suited connectors 89/9T should have got out of the way to my preflop raise.

Action on the flop - hornyshaun isn't beating me as he would check to the raiser with any of that flop - probably a middling pocket pair. Foota however, hard to tell so I raise it up again, he calls and the alarm bells start ringing.

Turn brings a flush draw but I can't really think that makes a difference. In the short time I had to think about it I was lost as to what he might have, to be honest I thought ah sod it I'm probably ahead and shipped it all in.

Looking back through the hand now I'm thinking maybe I could have put him on 89/9T as that's the only thing he could have right? The other caller preflop priced him in and he hit big. Am I right to think I could improve my play here and could have put him on that? Is there anything else I could have done to test whether he had it or not, given the stacks/blinds? Really could use some help on this one. Oh, and I hope the hand comes out alright, first time I've tried to post one from Sky

Personally as your hand is vunerable to AK, KQ, and any hand with a 9 in it, I would of followed his check on the turn and kept the pot small. At this stage your obviously thinking your ahead, but to go all in was the wrong move, your only going to be called by a better hand. From your explanation above you clearly thought the hand through and ruled out certain hands which is what you need to do.

Like I said above personally after seeing him call the re-raise on the flop, I would check the turn and then flat call their bet on the river, the pot is a decent size for blinds 10/20 and id be happy with it like that. Sometimes its better to minimise losses than try to maximize winnings

Similaiar thign happened to me last night with the same hands, apart from it being a bubble of a DYM, and he ended up making is 4 of a kind 9's.

Always springs to your minds he's got it but i just couldn't lay it down as the 3rd nine on the river lessened his chances.

As for your's it depends if you prepared to gamble, he's played it very strongly so it suggests your behind.

Flash, you're speaking my language. Amazes me how many people go out 5 mins into an MTT. Can't be that many AA vs KK or set over set matchups.

Think that was about my 2nd/3rd big poker moment of enlightenment!

    1. Position
    2. Bet size and pot management
    3. When and when not to bluff
    4. Be the raiser, not the caller
