passive poker

edited September 2013 in The Poker Clinic

the amount of passive poker I have seen on the micro stakes make me think I could be getting myself into so much trouble with my betting and calling

here are a few of the big questionable ones

with them all the villians seem so passive
hand one
should I fold the moment he does the raise on the flop

That last hand with 88, the river shove is madness and essentially turning our set of 8's into a bluff. We're only ever getting called by a 10 or an unlikely higher set.

I quite like the 'donk' lead on the flop, and when it gets raised and cold called, it gives us a great opportunity to bloat the pot and pump it up again when we are almost 100% ahead. We should be raising this board, not only for value but also because there are a couple of straightening cards that could kill our action on the turn.

As said above, I can't comprehend the river shove into 2 villains with almost bottom set. Especially after if got checked round on the turn and brings in a 4 card straight on the river. You've shovelled the money in on the river when you could be beat, yet put in the minimum on the flop when you have a very strong, and somewhat disguised, holding.

Hand 1: Folding flop feels so weak but he raises more than 3x and doesnt slow down on turn or river. Would be surprised if your ahead all that often. If you havent seem him raise that many flops i would be inclined to fold.

    Hand 2 is perfect.

Hand 3: re-raising flop is preferable because of how deep you are. Just flatting isnt bad though. On the river youve just swtiched your brain off due to feeling like youve lost value. Think about what hands you want to call and bet 1/2 pot or 3/4 to get a call from two pair and to limit losses when they show up with a ten. What you did is basically bluff with a set and miss even more value.

Bet sizing for everything else was good though/

i am going to put a cooldown period for the rest of this month because i think as that hand 3 shows i think i am probably in a tilt at the minute.
i have been wasting far to much in MTT poker when the only ones i should have been playing were the deepstacks timed and SnG  as thy atleast are short or in deep stacks case similar to a cash table at the start. so i had suffered so many times badly. when i go onto the cash table i haven't been relaxed so get so frustrated at the fact that when i do a bet they fold so much more often also when i see these raises that are made on the flop they don't often continue on the turn unless they are very strong and the number of times that i have seen players trapping with the hands which TBH was the villain in hand 2 was doing he had KJ and called all the way it makes me get angered so i become a maniac when in truth i thing the cash tables are far more nittier than MTT.

    the hands were
H1 he had the flush j9s
    H2 KJ
    H3 the both folded

my advice to others don't do what i did and mix MTT poker with cash poker because they can cause disaster.

goodbye for now back in October.

Other posters have covered most of what I would have said. Agree about not mixing MTT's with cash! I do this a bit and often regret it!

Hand 1 I think calling the flop is OK since we can spike a FH and we might still have the best hand but when they bet again OTT I'm folding since we don't have odds to call for a FH anymore and we're almost never ahead.

Take a break from playing if you like. You can still spend time reviewing hands, reading or watching videos. Whatever you feel helps your game.

I'd suggest you post up the hand between you and I on the TJTXJ board. You said you found it to be a tough decision on the end. You might benefit from the thoughts of others.
