Hullo!  Good weekend?  Still recovering if you were at the SPT in Newcastle!?  Hope you had a good 'un? Colin seemed to... ;-)

We're readying ourselves for tuesday's live show where we'll have coverage of sunday night's final table before we focus on our main event - live coverage of the 4K Turbo Open.  We'll move to the master cash tables at 9 before we head back to the final table of the 4K Turbo open to finish.

So given the all the fun of the SPT at the weekend what's

    A. The best thing about playing poker live

          vs

    B. The best thing about playing poker online?

I think I'd have to go with

    A. The fact you can't beat the social element of live play

    vs

    B. The fact you can't beat the comfort of playing in your PJ's.... Or is that just me!?

Also and because this has come up a few times in recent weeks I'd like to talk a bit about bluffing:

    To bluff:
    1. To mislead or deceive.
    2. To impress, deter, or intimidate by a false display of confidence.
    3. Games To try to mislead (opponents) in a card game by heavy betting on a poor hand or by little or no betting on a good one.

It's something that thanks to representation in poker films and the like, players are suspected of more than I would argue is often the case...

So - quick survey, no doubt we all bluff a bit but what factors come into play when deciding to 'mislead, deceive, impress, deter, intimidate' etc! How often if you analyse your play are you actually bluffing or semi bluffing?  Be really interested to hear....

And if you have any stories on successful bluffing off the tables like the time you told the kids at school you had new go faster trainers at sports day feel free to share those as well!

See you on the tables from 7

    Hiya Sarah.
Played SPT Newcastle at the weekend, My first time playing live poker.
Absolutely loved it, an amazing experience.
Anyone who has never been to an SPT event should move it to the top of their to do list.

Does make me appreciate on line play.
No waiting for players to post their blinds.
No waiting for the dealer to change a 10,000 chip for a 100 anti!!
Raising with the click of a button.
    Can't play out of turn.

    Playing live is totally different.
As a serial people watcher a poker table is a perfect location to observe human nature!!
    Meet all kinds of people.
    All kinds of strange people.
    I met this guy!!!

    Do you recognise him?
Should I keep this as my profile picture?

In Hiya Rich! That's great to hear! You never forget your first live! That sound of the chips being lifted and dropped that echoes round the room stays with you forever!

Glad you enjoyed it. Are you recovered yet? Took me a good few days from Newcastle last year!

    Sx

Oh P.S as for the pic, what can I say, you do get the odd undesirable type in casinos occasionally but they're a rarity... ;-) xx

    How often do I bluff?

Well, you don't need to bluff when you smash the flop every single time, and stack everyone at the table. Isn't that right, Sarah?

On the other hand, maybe I bluff a little bit and don't have a set quite as often as I make out.

    Nah! I always have it.

Have a great show Sarah and Ross. There's football on tonight... but I'll be watching you guys.

Ha!  You can watch both surely!?  Keep one eye on the scrappy game going on in the Ukraine and one eye on the scrappy games going on in tonight's Turbo!

Borin - you're either a BRILLIANT bluffer or you were running golden last night, long may it continue either way! ;-)

    i will be playing tonight.

The best thing about playing poker live is the prop bets.

The best thing about playing poker online is the lack of prop bets

Big news in the world of Olympic sport today: The International Olympic Committee elected a new President, Thomas Bach....

During his speech he mentioned something that seemed odd. He apparently has a personal motto - "Unity in diversity"

I was thinking about what my motto would be.

My non-poker motto would be "Aaaaawww.... It can wait 'til later."

My poker motto would be: "Always pay them off!"  lol

If you guys had personal mottos, possibly related to poker if you fancy, what would they be?

  • edited September 2013

Sarah I reckon yours would be: "Don't play with Borin. He's too good."

    Am I right? :D

    Hi Both

I prefer playing live, but predominately now play online , 99% on Sky, so

Best Live - Watching Your Opponent SWEAT when you put the Bluff on them
Best Online - Being Able to Shout at the Screen "Fold, Fold for Gods sake FOLD" when you put the bluff on them!
Important, dont mix the above two up!

    Secondly
Best Live - Already being somewhere you can celebrate when you win
Best Online - Being 10 seconds from your bed when you lose at 3.30 in the morning and no drive home!

    Thirdly
Best Live - Playing in a big field and loving the general atmosphere
Best Online - Being guaranteed a big field, no driving to the venue for a £50 freezout only to find only 13 opponents there.

Have a good show, will b watching when the football finishes!

    Hi Sarah and Ross

In regards to the Primo hand where I made a strange shove on the river with bottom pair, well looking back you are right, I should of just checked behind. But as you could see by the end of the tournament, Hjaltland was playing very aggro and was often doing that strange 3bet, and following it with a full pot Cbet. So when he just min bet on the flop and turn I was a bit confused. I wasn't really sure what he had and was very surprised to see it checked to me on the river, and just found myself clicking all-in.

I didn't mind him betting me off that A10 hand earlier, because I could tell he was going to keep 3betting so I was just taking my time and waiting for hit a decent flop.

Anyway it all came good in the end :-) I'm playing in the turbo tonight, so can hopefully make another TV appearance tonight.

Just moved now, but myself and 'Chuck' were indeed seated together. What a twosome.

You might be delighted to know I ran KK into AA in the main for almost all my stack and never recovered. I hope 'Chuck' cdfgtyujk  goes very deep!

Shame we weren't playing on a Master Cash table last night... Your excuse of "It was late" doesn't wash, though. These Master Cash hands were much earlier in the evening.

Just thought I'd grass you up.

Ace_Rag is using the 'Sarah Champion' avatar, btw.

Can i have this hand analysed please

    Hand History #689015634 (21:39 10/09/2013)

I just checked the turn for pot control, is this a big mistake? Or reasonable?

    Thanks

    Best thing about Online poker?

No need to worry about laughing after knocking someone out. People get annoyed when you laugh at them at the casino. Weird, huh?

    Best thing about live poker?

    Nobody knows me as BorinLoner.
