40NL HU - Line Check

edited September 2013 in The Poker Clinic
Game hadn't been going on too long so no massive info on opponent other than he wasn't a boring nit (either that or he'd had a long run of cards)

Opens most buttons, 3bets a decent amount.

Well HU depends a whole lot on the opponent.  Is he likely to throw away overpairs here?  Frankly if hes got some of the some hand I wouldnt be surprised to see him call with just top pair.  Why?  Well you look like youre trying to rep 2 pair or a set.   But these hands are so precious HU that if you have someone barrelling into you even on a wettish board like this... im calling down 100%.  I would want him to barrel his AK miss.... his overpairs etc and shoving gives him a chance to get away.  Its for precisely this reason a lot of heads up players are going to see this as a bluff or a pair+equity.

I've learnt this the hard way over the last few weeks.  HU its much more difficult to shift someone off a hand as people expect you to call down with your monsters - something which incidentally can be exploited on occassions
