this was in reply to BOLLY's thread which has now gone somewhere
alrite bolly mate,
obviously im thinking the same as you on this and yea it sucks massivley- i dont even grind on sky no more but was thinking about coming back soon... this may have changed that because giving any new player 30% straight away without having to move up any teirs or gaining differrent amounts of points is crazy - its a big kick in the teeth to existing customers and extemley good to new customers- and thats what it all boils down to..
its common knowledge that poker sites earn there money from losing players who frequently deposit.. many sites (inc sky) will run every promo they can to increase these numbers of players- its also common knowledge that money winning players make the losing player lose quicker and this would have been money the site would have made through rake-its basically a matter of time and how long losing players make their money last..!! and the money winners (i wouldn't say all regs however) jus speed up the process of them losing.....
therefore, many sites (including sky) will try and react to this- many ppl think that the regs make sites the money in the rake they play but the reality is, this is minimal compared the multi depositors and recs and the amount they produce- poker sites will try to combat how much the winning players take from their potential money by implementing different tactics - this could be things like; a HUD free site where sharks get less edge then they would with a HUD, it could be disabling data mining from site such as sharkscope or PTR for cash- it could be annoymous tables - it could also be restricting the amount of tables ppl can sit at- theres lots more site DO to combat how much money the money winnners take from them and imo this promo fro RTR is directly gear to bring new custom and potential $$$- also recently we was shown this again with the new rewards system geared heavily towards new players and again taking from the mass grinders--
this is how it has been for a long time and sky poker and their business are no different to all the other sites that do the same and more-
everytime a change happens that afftects me its obviously going to annoy me but it happens everywhere and its no different whereever you go- each site can offer its own bonuses and each site will have their own ways of trying to lenghten the time fish keep their money on the site-
imo all the regs should be more worried about the UK online gambling tax that will be coming nxt year- this is just another drain on the amount poker sites can earn from its player pools and im definatly concered what that will mean in term of bonuses we could recieve- this could make it too hard for alot of players to make any money atall- as the whole industry will be affected.
