very interesting especially to a live a novice like myself, nice post coxy and the rest of you who have chipped in with help, im determined to play a few live events this year, i have a little question, i know its very simple and sounds a bit thick but how do you announce your raise size correctly???  say for instance villain1 raises to 300 if i then wanted to put a 3bet in and put in 900 chips would i say raise too 900 or just say raise 600 more?

Just announce 'raise' and then put your chips in, in one motion.  The dealer will count how much extra you've raised.

when did you last hear someone under the age of 50 say that? :D

as long as you make it clear, I dont think it will be an issue. What I would say though, is people dont normally use the "600 more" approach, the amount the normally announce is the total bet amount.

I'm lazy...so I tend to use as few words as possible...

    "900"

thats all you need to say.

On the subject of showdown of hands, this can be a bit of a slow process sometimes, I'm in no rush to expose a weak holding if I don't need to, likewise I'm keen not to be seen to be holding up game flow.  In this situation I tend to look at the aggressor and wait for them to say something, if the say 1 pair and I can beat it I just turn my cards over, if I also have one pair I will respond immediately by saying 1 pair and wait for him to declare his hand, if it beats me I'll say you're good and wait for him to turn his cards over before mucking mine, if I'm ahead I'll immediately turn my cards over to claim the pot.

yes, the problem is when both players just sit and wait for the other player to turn over.

i would strongly suggest, if you are the last aggressor, just to flip your cards over straight away. even if its a stone cold bluff. there is nothing wrong with getting caught bluffing - proudly turn over the bluff - it shows you aren't afraid to make bold moves and you can always use it to your advantage in the future to help you get paid.

Try not to drool on the chips as the nice young ladies serve the tables.

Also, Mr Spittles touched upon it, but some dealers struggle to reach antes/bets/folded hands. Make their lives that little bit easier by putting whatever action close enough so they can scoop it without having to turn into Stretch Armstrong.

If you have not played "Live" poker in a proper venue before..... Do NOT place drinks on the Poker Tables. Ever.

In Response to Re: UKPC hints - Live etiquette : Not a silly questionat all Dunmidosh - in live tournaments, there is no limit to how long you may leave the table for. Your blinds and antes will be posted, and when they run out, you will be eliminated.

Some card room s have a time limit, or a round of the table, then after that they post ur big blind or small blind ever hand, witch ever the case may be

Is there an easy way to keep track of the size of the pot?

If you want to posture and such, would you mind if we did it in a different thread rather than this one please?

    Thanks

The dealer cannot tell you exactly the amount in the pot, so one trick (post antes) is to times the BB by three to approximate the amount in the pot, then add any raises/calls to the calculation

But you can ask the dealer to spread it. The pot, that is.

DO NOT attempt to touch it yourself!

Excellent point. Never touch the chips in the centre of the table until the dealer has pushed them to you. Do not take change, do not swap for higher denomination chips, nothing. Also, do not reach forward to drag the chips forward when you win a hand, the dealer will push them to you

In Response to Re: UKPC hints - Live etiquette : Yeah, use those ickle awkward side-tables that you can pull up next to you, and try to avoid throwing your elbows, because your coffee/beer/margarita is likely to end up on the floor otherwise.

i just thought of something that is a little annoying at my local casino and wondering if its the same at other casinos

you get a 5min break every hour which is when those who smoke go have a cigarette and grab a drink and those who dont smoke usually grab a drink so

why does the waitress come round within 2mins of the break ending to ask if anyone wants a drink surely if would be better if she came round at say half past the hour in case someone wants a top up

ps wow an english site and we cant say f ag
