I haven't ran through the icm calculations but looking at this, stacksize, and blinds, we can fold here and still have a healthy 13bbs.  When we call, we have to be sure that we have freshner beat because if we lose out to freshner but beat paw01 then we're left with 620 (4bbs).

For us to call we have to be sure that we always have freshner beat even if we lose the pot.

    Scenarios:

1: Call, Beat freshner but lose to paw01 = 3rd place cash
    2: Call, Beat Paw01 but lose to freshner = 620 chips (4bbs)
3: Call, Beat freshner and paw01 = 1st place cash
4: Call, Lose to both = Out

    5: Fold, freshner beats paw01 = 1955 (13bbs), freshner 4450, paw01 3212, ianfurlong 2380
    6: Fold paw01 beats freshner = 3rd place cash

Let's look at freshners possible hands:

    Hands we beat:
2 pair combos, set 9s, Top pair with inside straight draw, flush draws.  We can rule out TT as I think villain would have shoved this pre.

    Hands we lose:
QT, T7.  We can rule out set Js as you would expect villain to have shoved pre.

With this in mind I think we have to call.  It's only 32 combos that have us beat compared to the many more combos that we have beat.

Personnally after 2 all ins i am folding as u still have a very healthy stack and blinds are still relativley low so loads of potential play left.

Thanks for the replies, i think it`s the first time i`ve ever folded a set!!

It was a nasty spot but it worked out ok.

@AAA in your reply you say it`s ok to fold but later on you advise a call. Which would be better??

We can fold and have 13bbs, thus we still have a healthy stack or we can call and most of the time we will be ahead of Freshner, however in this situation he had the nuts.  So basically which ever you do in this particular situation call/fold would be fine.  To get the true answer we would need to run it through ICM, but if you think he would shove that flop with 2 pairs, and/or flush draws then it's a call.

I did actually reason this out before I saw you'd posted the results. One I'm not sure I'd have donked out, or at least not as much on that board maybe. Also, is set mining at 17bbs a good choice? Dunno, I guess from sb.

The choice of call or fold. Think I fold. Still have a couple of before I'm in shove stage and chip leader could well have him beat. Migh base some of it on how fast chip leader called him off, as if it was quick I'd have to give him credit for the straight quite possibly. Might think differently for any other place, but in DYM on bbble I think fold.

I thnk you've missed a scenario out - we can call and lose to both but still cash so long as paw01 beats freshner.

Also to note is that a call isn't all in for us - we may as well shove the rest of our chips in tho if we're going to call. This way if we lose to freshner but beat paw01 we will win a small side pot.

Basically if we shove the only way we are going out is if we lose to both paw01 and freshner. With a set of 88's it's pretty unlikely we are going to lose to both - as happened here one had 2 pair and the other a straight which means that we were never going to lose to both. Either the board pairs and we potentially lose to paw01 if it's a J or 9 which is fine by us or it doesn't and we lose to freshner but still remain in with 1200 chips and still some fold equity.
