Good event for the wider poker community as a whole and probably not what the Sky community was looking for based on the core of the Sky community coming from the DTD 1 and 2 quid series and essentially 5 and 11 quid bounty hunters. At the end of the day, Sky want to appeal to the wider poker community, it is where new business lies and in Tikay and SPT Rich P they have two really experienced poker people who know the game (and the current challenges in the market) really well, I always trust their judgement, the UKPC was a great event and I am sure this will be.
Personally I could just about stretch to the 250 buy in, I play one or two 200+ buyins a year if I can but I don't like the Re-entry that has been added here, I appreciate poker evolves and if you stand still you fail but I don't like the higher bankroll players given the advantage of a second bullet, level playing field FTW!
However I appreciate it is the norm in the live poker world these days and acknowledge if you have travel and accomodation expenses and end up coolered KK into AA in level 1 the second bullet can be a good idea and swells the prize pool.
There are a few other lower stakes tours I won't name so perhaps it was time for Sky to move up the ladder in the live tour market, with TK and RP at the helm and with Dusk till Dawn as the venue provider with all their positives I am not surprised Sky Poker put themselves in this market, BlackBelt had a similar tour and community and fell by the wayside, Sky Poker are future proofing with the 2014 offerings.
I hope they can fit in a traditional SPT somewhere though, Dublin would get my vote
not necessarily, there is no definitive decision that there won't be SPTs in 2014. The Mini 6 max deepstack at the start of the UKPC 11 days is designed to appeal to the lower bankrolls, quarter the buy in of the main, juicy £150,000 GTE and 50 seats for the main up for grabs. Posted by SPT
so basically everyone has asked for a nice "cheap" friendly game of poker and sky has responded with a schedule to rival UKIPT/GUKPT which most of us cant afford anyways.
I understand your trying to broaden your market and attract these players who play these events to sky poker, but the biggest online event outwith ukopts is £220 and called a high roller. The sites basic mtt schedule doesnt attract them.
I respect in this schedule you have lower buy in events, but will you run sats for them or do i need to play elsewhere for them - the latter is terrible for sky.
Re-entry aswell, so not only do i have to hgope yo get lucky through countless sats, now even if i manage to bust someone, chances are their back in the mtt, just in the hope of meeting the guarentee. This can't be very appealing to 99.8% of sky's player pool

Thank you Dave, a balanced Post, but I have to say that RP & myself are NOT at the helm, we are just the water-carriers.
Doubt the Business would appreciate SPT Rich & I being described as "at the helm". We are in the galley, washing pots.

You seem to have missed the point Don, & I understand your frustration, but that's not an accurate representation.
The exising player-base are very important, & it needs to appeal to them, too, but to say "99.8% won't find it appealing" is a bit of an exaggaration. A significant number of Sky Poker regulars played the previous UKPC in February, most of whom satellited in, some for as little as £2.20. There will be "Freerolls" for Seats, too. The feedback I heard was tremendous, too, regular players, for want of a better word, loved sharing tables with the likes of Messrs Trickett, Devilfish, Toby, Jake, et al.
Remember, part of the logic is to attract new players to the Site, & to raise the profile of the Business &, to a degree, change how the site is viewed by non-account holders.
It was never going to be easy to please everyone, of course. Goes with the territory, that.
The previous UKPC, in February, was a stunning success, by any yardstick, & as a result, was, on balance, good for the site.
Sad as it may seem, the Site cannot just try to appeal to one section of the player-base, it has to try to appeal to as many as possible, AND try to attract new players. Quite a tricky path to tread.
Just feel that SKY Poker is putting at risk that uniqueness that most of us love.
If you ask players why they play on SKY, you usually get answers like "the community spirirt" "the spts" or "the teams."
A second major event makes the SPTs (if there are any) appear lower down the pecking order. As UKIPT & GUKPT have discovered, £1k buy in tournaments, usually mean overlay. Initially, there is high demand for something new but it soon wanes. UKIPT are dropping buy ins to £700 and most GUKPT events this year have dropped to £500. In fact the only tour which appears to be thriving is the 25/25 Series. Probably no coincidence that they have pitched it at £200 with loads of satellites.
Two years ago, I thought the SPT was going to make a major breakthrough by running a tour of events at £100 & £200. It was set up to be the tour with the most attendees. Instead they has stepped back & allowed Grosvenor to take over this market with the 25/25 Series.
I will have an attempt via the cheapest satellites but I won't be targetting this event. Just feel that the suits are starting to lose touch with a large number of the players.
Dissapointed not to see any plans for future SPT,s although i kinda of had an idea as the UKPC seemed to me like Sky were trying to move on from SPT,s and go for bigger events and compete with the GUKPT as it had a slight drop in numbers for a while.
I know of a few ppl recently who have stopped playing on Sky and i haven,t really been on myself but SPT,s would certainly get these ppl back playing in the satlites and i,m sure that would lead to them coming back to the site more - myself included
There are other tours out there for similar buy-ins but pale in insignificance compared to the SPT.s. It was such a popular part of Sky i just can,t understand if they get binned or re-shaped to much . If it aint broke and all that
Ps - Wern,t they getting more popular as well ? The reserve list seemed to grow on each SPT
Time to look elsewhere. I've enjoyed playing on sky but these levels are well above my limits. I've started going up to Manchester and hitting the casinos there. Really enjoying it and a great bunch around there. Buy ins are within my levels and staying over to have a drink too!!

You only have to read the debates on facebook & listen to the conversations between players to realise that there is a massive negative reaction to the news of the latest event.
It is not that players are against the event, more that everyone was hoping for SPT news and this indicates that priorities have moved away from the masses that have played SKY Poker for the last five years & towards the smaller better rolled professional & semi professional player.
There also appears to be total silence on addressing the real concerns of the majority. Sometimes we have to accept that poker sites change & it may be more profitable for SKY to have fewer players playing for much larger amounts. In the long term I believe this is wrong because the sharks go to the sites with big fish, the big fish go to the sites with the little fish and the little fish go where they can play for as little as possible. Moral: Look after the little fish!
The Mini events appeal but only if there plenty of satellites which it appears isn't planned. If this was, I am sure a lot of the regulars wuld play & treat it as an SPT.
Thankfully the community spirit on SKY is still strong so this willl not be a fatal blow.

Im not so convinced. The forum bar a few isolated threads is almost tumbleweed at the moment. the reaction on facebook sums it up for me.
Sky are commited to this now, but surely they could have ran their usual SPTs around these events. I know sky doesnt have the man power of that certain big sites that manages to run EPT's, UKIPT's, aswell as other live events accross the globe. These are 1k and 5k festivals that run successfully. Surely they change having their UKPC's and SPT's at the same time.
Edit: by at the same time i mean, the UKPC's run as planned. And SPTs run in different months. If you wish to have a mini, then thats the SPT for that month add a seat to the UKPC as prize if so wished.
As geldy in another thread mentiond we've already lost 2 of skys biggest games in TSP and VLV. I'd happily spend £70 trying to qualify for an SPT thats reasonably local, ill probably put in £30 to this, on the basis of throwing more at it would feel like chasing money too much.
SPTs did give us the opportunity to get our our team colours and meet up with each other. I am extremely disappointed that Luton is off the map - and the new one at Milton Keynes never got a chance.
I know from a business perspective that big tournaments are the future - and the lack of live sky tv coverage was definitely a backward step from a personal angle as it was great to watch the regulars when we were unable to attend.
It was great while it lasted - and great to feel part of a massive team as well as individual teams - however i realise we must all move on.
In my personal opinion I feel that the "smaller" players like myself have lost great days to look forward to - but fair play to Sky for bringing us all together.

+1 . With a certain Mr Jarvis now working for/with Sky has it ever been considered to combine the PP tour with SPT,s or something along those lines. It could benefit both parties if worked out right. PP mag would get more Sky players and Sky would get more PP readers
I hope you don't mind me posting, I was just sitting in my office flicking through the internet and came accross this thread when I was searching for the 6-Max press releases.
I have read the comments on this thread, in 2013 we held 2 X SPT events at Dusk Till Dawn, a £200 6 Max and £300 SPT Grand Final, both really fun days, I played the 6 Max £200 myself and if I remember, I actually finalled one of them. I agree that the community feeling and spirit is very unique at these SPT events, they reminded me of the Blondepoker events that I used to attend when I first starting playing poker.
Just a couple of things;
1. This February's UKPC and August's 6-Max UKPC are NOT replacements for the SPT, in fact the 6-Max was held at DTD last November under the PokerStars UKIPT brand, and the UK Poker Championships was on the planning table for 7 years.
2. For the 6-Max UKPC, Sky proposed adding a 'Mini' 6-Max version of the Main at 25% of the buy-in for the Sky regulars and I would also be fully behind doing the same for the UKPC in Feb 2015. I am sure Sky will be running some fun promotions and qualifers for this £250 Mini nearer the time.
3. In terms of the SPT's. I can only comment on the ones we have held at DTD. Sky and their players are an absolute pleasure to deal with so I would be more than happy to continue to host the 2x SPT weekends at DTD, although I recognise this may only satisfy the 'midlands based' Sky Poker players - perhaps we could space them out evenly between the UKPC events, although maybe those Sky players that attend the UKPC's will be sick of sight of DTD by then!
4. In terms of re-entry, Day 1C of the 6-Max Main is actually a freezeout. But for 6 Max and PLO events, I am probably in favour of re-entry, it's very easy to bust out early in a 6 Max or PLO event and players do travel a long distances to Dusk Till Dawn, so the option of a second attempt seems okay to me. In fact, after feedback from the UKIPT 6-Max last year, re-entry was the overwhelming request from players, including qualifers, who were happy to try and win their second attempt online, rather than make the long trip and bust out in the early levels with hotels booked etc
5. In terms of 'Sky now trying to compete with GUKPT', this is simply not the case. the GUKPT is 12 stop UK Tour that attract a couple of hundred players at each stop. The UKPC and 6-Max UKPC are joint efforts by DTD and Sky, with Sky being the sponsor and DTD being the operator. These 2 x £1M GTD UKPC festivals are based on old 'fashioned poker festivals' that myself, TK and Richard used to attend, but with the prizepools 'supersized'. To give you an idea, 1650 people attended the UKPC events in Feburary, to watch as well as play, that's a very different to model to a GUKPT or any other tour.
On a general note, I think that Sky Poker are very committed to grass roots poker and this is a major attraction to work with them. TK, Rich and the Sky management are always super conscious of doing what is best for their regular sky customers and that fits in really well with our ethos.
I would love to come on a Sky Poker show and just discuss/take questions on grass roots poker, re-entry, HUD's, live events etc etc i.e how we as operators can run poker and give grass roots players what they want.
I'm sure it wouldn't bother too many about an SPT being at Nottingham, Just so long as there is a cheap(ish) live event to go to which involves the community. I've never been to an SPT and was really looking forward to going to one this year, just slightly disappointed no plans have been announced regarding an SPT. I do like all your points however, and it would be great to see you on the show to discuss grass roots poker/recreational players etc
Rob, great to see you here, & thanks for the Post.
I'm having a few days break right now, after a pretty stressful week, and doing tomorrow's Show (in which I must just mention the 6-Max UKPC @ DTD......), but I'll reply to you, & every other valid comment & Post by others soonest, probably Monday.
Have to say, when I saw someone suggest Sky Poker were "trying to compete" with GUKPT, I did have to do a double-take! Nothing could be further from the truth, these UKPC events don't attempt to compete with anything or anyone. I've always been a fan of GUKPT, & my good mate Johnny Raab, who now runs the Eureka Tour, started them back in '04 or '05, & I used to play them regularly, & I hope the GUKPT continues to succeed, but no no no, Sky Poker have no desire to compete with them, GUKPT & UKPC are chalk & cheese, in every way. Both are fine, but they are different things, & are run for different reasons, based on wholly seperate business propositions.
Anyway, thanks for Posting, & to everyone else, I'll reply to all (relevant) Posts soonest.
For now, enjoy your Easter.
Am off to Shoreham Airport shortly, ooohh, planes, spectacular views of Lancing College, + coffee & cake in the cafeteria, then Hove Greyhounds, including dinner, for the evening.
Work tomorrow..........and, I guess, replying to Community Posts on Monday.
What a life.
PS - Post more please Rob, you are always welcome. I am arranging with the Suits for Simon Plumper & yourrself to come on 861 as Guests, so I'll sort some dates with you over the weekend.

Hi Rob
while this might sound as rather suck uppy (is that a word?) its not meant to be.
I've posted probably more critisim than most, please don't think thats against DTD. I'd be delighted for an SPT to be held at DTD any other weekend of the year.
I've traveled down from scotland twice, once i qualifed for a ukipt (the £1m guarenteed one, think it was a £770 buy in not 100% sure though) and the SPT 6 max. Im mostly a low stakes player and i agree that DTD is head an sholders above anything i've played in.
100% my issue is with the sat structure. Im not signed up with the dtd website and imagine the quality is similar to that you have in venue thus have no real will to sign up. This means out of all the events i have to qualify for is the main event on sky, which means getting through several rounds of sats, which even the best players would require some run good to use,
I also don't buy the story that sky want to attract new players, the kind dtd offers would look at a £220 "super roller" load up other sites and be like stuff that. The online schedule doesnt support the higher stake mtt players of the world, and given its player pool rightly so. Skys most common event is a £5.75 bh.
In honesty i hope this event is a huge success i just persoanally worry sky is not the right sponsor for sky or dusk till dawn.
Edit: this is not because i dont like sky or dtd. but because or where both are at at the present time.
hope u enjoyed the dogs tk...............nice place shoreham airport and the collage....just down the road from me.........looking forward to the sats for ukpc aas that's how I got my seat in feb.....love dtd and will be there in august.

nice post rob. you are more than welcome to post on this site.
In response to those asking about SPT this year I have one answer - DIY.
From an original idea from flashjonny a while back myself and Michael got involved and we now have a weekend at Blackpool planned for the 13th and 14th June taking in poker and the World cup. It obviously won't match the SPT turnout but so far I believe we are in the region of 25/30 players turning up to play the Friday night tourney (£55 re entry) or Saturday (£35 re entry) at G Casino. This is open to anyone who plays on Sky Poker or even friends of Sky Poker players. I realise Blackpool isn't within everyone's travelling distance but there is absolutely no reason why someone can't organise more get togethers like this in a more local area.
Talking of our Blackpool meet up it would be awesome if any Sky Poker presenters or analysts could make the trip. You could experience a mini SPT from the punters side for a change.
off course you realise you are competing with the best low stakes tournament of the year in the Goliath.Grosvenor own this week with the excellent 25/25 series in Birmingham on the 8th/10th.All week flights for goliath, get knocked out then enter the 25?25 on 15/16th,get knocked out and then £55 poker player mag tour on the 17th.DTD excellent but in Nottingham.SPT(sky poker tour) you have really gaffed this time . try and listen to what your regulars want.Good luck you will need it
the very successful APAT WCOAP at DTD was the same week as the Goliath for several years, and both events were successes each year
tikay's first Vegas blog published today is talking about 400 names for the UKPC Six Max main event already forecasted, and expecting to beat the 621 from February which would produce a huge prize pool, and another fantastic event to which everyone can qualify in from freerolls and up on Sky Poker and DTD Online every week
well its a £1,000,000 basket with a £500,000 component so you shouldn't be surprised that its going to be getting all of the marketing effort Hopefully the SPTs will be back at some point, I think there is room for both Posted by SPT
If there is room for both, why is only one happening or am I missing the point (happening more and more the older I get)

Doubt the Business would appreciate SPT Rich & I being described as "at the helm". We are in the galley, washing pots.
I Take it the venue will be DTD Notts again then if its all 6 max? not seen it posted anywhere?
I am arranging with the Suits for Simon Plumper & yourrself to come on 861 as Guests, so I'll sort some dates with you over the weekend.
would also love for spt to continue
cheers

all efforts on filling up and promoting the UKPC Six Max at DTD in August, obviously
Hopefully the SPTs will be back at some point, I think there is room for both
off course you realise you are competing with the best low stakes tournament of the year in the Goliath.Grosvenor own this week with the excellent 25/25 series in Birmingham on the 8th/10th.All week flights for goliath, get knocked out then enter the 25?25 on 15/16th,get knocked out and then £55 poker player mag tour on the 17th.DTD excellent but in Nottingham.SPT(sky poker tour) you have really gaffed this time . try and listen to what your regulars want.Good luck you will need it
the very successful APAT WCOAP at DTD was the same week as the Goliath for several years, and both events were successes each year
tikay's first Vegas blog published today is talking about 400 names for the UKPC Six Max main event already forecasted, and expecting to beat the 621 from February which would produce a huge prize pool, and another fantastic event to which everyone can qualify in from freerolls and up on Sky Poker and DTD Online every week
