Deepstack mtts

edited March 2014 in Tournament Strategy
Been watching alot of deepstacks and wondering what is the best approach to playing these ?

Is it better to be patient early and try to build slowly or is it better to try and get a stack early then have the chips to bully alot more ?

Sorry if these questions dont make much sense as i am new to playing mtts and just wanted a bit advice from the better players on the site if possible.

Play tight early levels, then as blinds increase, then start to open up your game.  It really does come down to the playing style which suits you best, but generally playing tight early is the better way to go.  Try to seep flops early in late position with hands that can do serious damage such as suited connectors, small pairs and Axsuited hands.

I'd also add, don't miss out on exploiting weaker players because you are playing tight. By all means, play tight as your default, but if there is a weak player at the table try to get into heads up pots with them etc. there is plenty of room to (small) mistakes, and if you wait too long all the easy chips will be gone.
