3000 Point March Challenge

edited March 2014 in Poker Chat
The aim is to gain 3000 points in March simply by playing 30p Turbo SnG's. The idea behind it is there a jump in rake at 3K points, making 3000 worth £45. So even if I lost £30 or so playing that many, it would still be worthwhile. I played about 1000 30p's last month, mainly 2 tabling, and it felt like I hardly played as I was on holiday for 4 days and it was only a 28 day month.
As March is a 31 day month, it means I need to gain 96 or 97 points a day, I will play 4 at a time in the day if enough fill up and I will 6 table in the evenings when the site is busy. I'll update my progress as the month goes on, with win rates etc.
So let's see how it goes.

    Good luck with this fa1lacy.

Do you mean £3.30 SNG's? They award 3 points each, (or I think they do, I may be wrong), so 1,000 of those does the job.

I'm on the 3,000 Point chase, too. Hope to see you @ the other end!

Thanks Chris and Tikay. No crazy enough I actually mean 30p Turbo's! Just won 6 in a row. Although I lost my first 2, which wasn't a good start. 69% win rate so far.

How many Reward Points do you get for a 30p Turbo SNG, then?

I'm easily confused, but I was prettty sure that I get 3 points for a £3.30 SNG.

How many Reward Points do you get for a 30p SNG?

    Ahh, got it now, thanks.

100 per day gets him home & hosed then, with a bit to spare.

Surely losing 100 buy ins is not possible, you seem to care about poker enough to be able to crush 30p stakes right?

To lose £30 over 1000 games the player would have to manage a 54% success rate over the 1000 games. From the games I've played against the OP he/she doesn't meet that average win rate

Good luck lacy as we spoke about this the last few days I also aim to reach 3000pts this month, last month for the first time topped 2000pts finishing with 2010pts. Just curious as to what your starting bankroll is and do you intend depositing if you bust, my starting bankroll is £34.05 with £20.10 to come in c4p.

Hiya guys, seems to be some major confusion here because I mentioned 'if I lose' etc etc. When I started the challenge this morning my balance on Sky Poker was £960. The challenge is can I make it to the next rewards pay scale instead of just the usual 1 point = 1 pence, just by playing low stakes on Sky. Hope that clears things up.

So the 1st day of spring wasn't the best day to start my points challenge as I was out all day with my wife and kids. So apart from a measly 16 points gained early morning, I didnt get cracking until nearly 5pm. Then I only reached a total of 68 for the day, mainly through talking too much in the chat box, (I drop down to 2 tables when chatting.)

My win rate was 70% until my last 8 games of the night, when (after several cans of cider) I managed to lose 7/8! Which meant my win rate dropped to a lowly 59% for the day!

Nevermind, the good news is I still only need to play 97 a day now in the remaining 30 days left. Which is completely do able.

    Anyway onwards I go..

    You have a £960 roll and you're playing 30p sng's?
  • edited March 2014
Thanks guys! Will have to look into this 'Bronze' promo??

Ok so if the first day was a weekend day spent with the family, and I couldn't fit a big number in, 68, well yesterday was the same only we were at home more so I played slightly more, 77 this time, all 30p Turbo's. With a better win rate this time at 65%, compared to day 1's 59%.

So where does that leave the challenge of hitting £45 rakeback? Well on day 1, I needed to play 96 a day over 31 days, day 2 it was up to 97 a day over 30 and now I need to play 98 a day over 29. Luckily 98 a day is still very possible. So I will see how I go today.

    Enjoying this, a good read.

Poker is not just about the big-hitters, though the poker-media would have us believe otherwise. The greatest % of poker players play at micro-levels, so they deserve a bit more respect from the wider Poker Community, IMO.

And making money, even at micro-levels, is incredibly satisfying.

Keep it up Mr Fa1lacy, I'm sure you'll hit your target.

Yes it's true, (£963 now) I did grind £3.30's when I first joined in 2012. Plus I have played thousands of 2.25's and 1.15's. Plus quite a few £5.50's in my time.

I suppose this is about getting addicted to beating my previous points total from the month before and discovering that 30p turbo's are a cheap and quick way of building up points, and I've kind of got stuck playing them.

So yesterday with my wife at work and the kids at school, I managed 24 games before school pick up, which was a bit slow going. I took the number up to 50 with a late afternoon session. Then I thought I ended just before midnight on my 100th game. But soon after, while looking at my points total, I realised I'd actually played 105 games in the day, and lost 5 somewhere in the wilderness. So I'm not too sure about accurate stats, but the 100 sample was a 52% win rate. My worst yet, but still fine as the goal is to rewarded £45 in rakeback.

Total points all from 30p Turbo DYM's for March at time of writing is: 257

I didn't appear on first published Bronze promo list as I was only told about it (by my friends at the tables) yesterday afternoon. I've entered the code and will hopefully appear in the next list. I would have been 63rd out of top 150 if I'd been registered. So this is a new string to my challenge, as it looks like I may be able to add another reward on top of the £45 (if I make it to 3000 points) as long as I don't get left behind in the table.

Thanks for the latest posts showing interest in my challenge from MrsDuck and of course the lovely Truly.

So yesterday I needed to earn 98 points to be on course for the 3000 in March, gained purely from micro stakes. I hit 101 for the day just around midnight, with about 55 of them coming after 8pm.

I started the day recording my progress by writing down a W or L next to each game, for win or loss, but once in the evening session started it got completely manic as games are always starting up or needing an action, so I completely lost track of recording everything. I know people play three times my 6 tabling efforts, but maybe they are not turbo's and maybe the more sedate standard DYM's. Missing premium hands when 6 tabling 30p turbo's is a big problem as I am constantly timing out on tables.

Bizzarely I found out I am the joint 11th top player on any poker network in 2014 in terms of winning streaks, as it seems at some point this year I have won 17 DYM's in a row, and only 10 other players are recorded as doing better. Several are on 18/19 in a row, the highest player is on 27.

Also I was ranked 104th, out of 150, in the Bronze promo list, a £10 spot, so hopefully I can keep up with the big number hitters.

Current points total at time of writing is: 358.

never thought that you could get that many 30p games in a day so thought u would struggle but you doing good so far hope you do make it and do well with the leaderbord thing ..goodluck

    Thanks Churchy.

Ok, so I didn't update yesterday as it was me and my wife's 10 year anniversary of the day we met. We went to our local casino and had a lovely meal and teared up the roulette tables. The house didn't beat me, as I came away up, my wife's story was a bit different!

So 2 days ago then, I needed 98 points for the day and I gained 101. So that went well, but yesterday as my wife was off work for our special day and we were out all evening, I hardly appeared on the site and on only made it to 35 points for the day. This now leaves me needing 104 points per day over 24 days. Which I believe is possible, especially if I cut out a lot of the talking in the chat box in the evenings!

Yesterday in the Bronze promo I had moved up from 104th to 100th position, a £10 spot, so I need to see today how much my evening off has affected me in the leaderbaord.

Ok so yesterday when updating my points challenge, I completely forgot to include how many points I had! Well at time of writing I have a total of: 575

My position yesterday in my now side challenge, the Bronze promo, was 116th.

Last night was a really slow night in 30p land. I only had 3 tables running for most of it, not the expected 6. So my total yesterday came to 85, 19 off the the 104 I was aiming for. Still it's early in the month yet, a few days of hittng the 120 mark would soon sort me out!

Most people over in 30p Land know this anyway, but I thought I should explain on here what happened. Basically for the first 9 days everything was going going perfect, I was getting about 105 points a day on average. But then last monday, after returning from the school run, I immediately had to return there after my son's school had phoned to say he had been sick. So after caring for him all day, because he couldn't stop being sick, I had barely played any games. Then by early evening I caught the sickness bug. I was in bed by 8 o'clock feeling dreadful with only about 20 points for the day. Feeling rough the next day I only managed about another 20, then about 30 the next and so on as I was gradually getting better.

So by Friday I was about 300/400 short, and that was that, because I felt it was too much too make up over the remaining days left.

I will attempt gaining 3000 points again purely from micro stakes DYM's again in another 31 day month, as I think the challenge is profitable especially when combined with other promo's. As this month I would have recieved £45 for the points and two lots of £10 from the bronze promo, as I was sitting comfortable in the top 150 until my play dropped off a cliff.

Anyway thanks for the comments and to anyone who followed and supported this challenge. I will see what I can do next time..
