Late reg for tournaments - do you do it?

edited June 2014 in Poker Chat
So I was late home tonight after being out all day and annoyingly missed the roller again when I keep planning to play it every week!! Got back at half past but by the time I had tea it was quarter to 9 and I didn't particularly feel like late regging. Just seen late reg was still available 10 mins ago and was almost tempted by it but I can just never justify it! I just feel like I've missed so much of the tourney and if I had entered it from the start I may have doubled up my chip stack - or at least had a chance to do so. (especially in a tournament that I like predominantly because of the deep structure similar to cash at the start) Is it still +ev to enter a tournament that late? Does anyone here do it often?

btw if you sometimes late reg 5/10 mins late that can be put under "never late reg" :)

20 mins is ok but i play hi/lo so its not too bad and blinds still low

i never late reg on purpose, 30bbs is the lowest stack size id start a torunament with, theres some people who late reg on purpose and id love to no why they do it, there giving up so much value.

When I play live, ther is a number of regs who will late reg arriving at level 7. Find this quite common where as I like to be sittin from the get go, online if I fancy it and it's open I'll just reg, but the mitts I play normally have.a small late reg, don't think I would do it for the roller or a main unless It was an all in sat.

Think one if the main reasons for the late reg on live games at the casino is there is a re.reg period up till the first break... Luckily I've never had too do that yet or late regged.

id prefer to be in from the start, however i have 2 kids under 4 so not so easy.  I do think late reg is a lot more comfortable especially in the latter stages for mtt players more than cash players because they are more comfortable with <20bb stacks.

Depends on if you are looking at racing to build a stack to be honest.

i dont mind late regging. you can look at it both ways - start a bit shorted, but on te other hand some of the field have already been eliminated.

you can still have an edge when late regging - your 20/30/40 or whatever bb game just has to be better than your opponents.

saying that, I dont like to late reg with much less than 40bb, but do anyway sometimes.

Yes, but never in Bounty Hunters.

I prefer to take my seat from the very start in any MTT, but will late-reg freeze-outs and rebuys when running late or short of time.

Bounty Hunters are the exception. As each player busts the prizepool gets smaller and it makes less sense to buy-in. I like to be there from the very start while the all the 'bingo' players who will happily punt their entire stack very light are still in the field.

If I ever played the 'big' tournaments I'd try and late reg 5/10 minutes in, to get a softer table with late sattellite qualifiers and all in sat winners.

The value of a good table draw is worth missing out on 10/15 hands for, I'm surprised more people don't do it.

I can't answer the poll as a player but if I were to back somebody they'd have to very very good for me to be comfortable with late reging 50 minutes into the roller. And as Gary says it's a must to register from the start in bounty hunters.

depends on the structure. theres 1 game elsewhere where i wont reg until 30 secs before late reg closes. in most standrad mtts though 30BB+

Very much depends on the tournament, there's one particular tournament where I will quite often register at the very last second before late reg closes and have won it from there on a number of occasions.

I would love there to be a longer late reg for some deepstacked game so for the Roller if it's within you br not having to sat in I would def late reg after the 1st break ;')
For bhs from the start unless the field is more than 200 runners then up to the 1st break.

In general, I'm not a fan of late registration. I like starting a tournament knowing what the prize pool will be, rather than it changing mid-way through.

Having said that, it does exist so I do it on occasion for deep stack events.
