Sky Community

edited June 2014 in Poker Chat
I try to watch 861 as often as I can, probably 2 - 3 days a week.

I often see the 5 minute fill that gets played at 55 past the hour featuring James Hartigan and Anna Fowler where they talk about how great the community is.

Given that the Sky Poker Tour seems to have died....... is this still true?

I have only been an active forum member since the start of the year, so I don't know about the "good old days" or the spt's. However, I'm gutted I cant make the upcoming Blackpool trip that has been organized but hopefully this might start an unofficial spt organized by community members????

    Just a thought.....

I guess it boils down to what you consider community spirit is. The Monday night games continue to be popular along with numerous other community games. Lots of the community are part of facebook groups/Skype groups etc. I also like the good banter in chat at the tables but you always get the odd few who make negative comments at the tables. Based on a few negative comments at the tables no one suggest the community spirit is dead, people just ignore the negative comments as generally the person making the comments is the one with the issues. Lots of the community meet up to play live games. The SPT's were great and I will miss them but we seem to be continually going over the same ground. There is the unofficial SPT which I am sure will be well supported. For me we need to focus on the positives of the community spirit, whether at the tables in chat or facebook/Skype or forum games (or any other initiatives which I have missed in case I offend anyone)rather than focus on SPTs.

Good bunch of people on here.  I met a few when I went to the UKPC back in Feb and had a fantastic time, although the said tournament was superb in everyway it did not give off that 'community vibe' due to the fact it was dominated by players who do not play on Sky.  I am sure the SPTs did (given they were strictly for Sky players only).  sadly I never got to go to an SPT event and was quite looking forward to it.

I can understand from a marketing perspective that Sky has to do what is best for the business but a flagship once a year community live event would be fantastic.  Surely this is possible?

    Find out on Friday!
It's not Sky poker that makes the community - it's us Simon. OK Sky provided the means  with the SPTs and the forums but it's meet ups like Blackpool and Hitsquads date at Luton that will keep the community thriving hopefully.

It's still a good community imo.

It's just spread out over various platforms eg forum/facebook/skype/twitter.

And for the most part, the chat box is full of supportive messages from people railing each other. There are obviously the very few who let themselves down occasionally, but overall I'd say the community on Sky is very good.

I remember when Mrburns son went missing.
That showed the true spirit of the community
Thank goodness it resulted in a positive ending!

Its sad that the SPT's have ended!
but there are some great people on the forum and some great games in the lobby.

Maybe one day soon the SPT's will be revived but its great that community nights are taking place
respect to those who give their time to organise them!

Good luck at the tables (unless I'm in the hand of course)

The SPTs haven't died. Temporarily resting

understandably perhaps when there isn't one booked people say it, which is frustrating, but I would hope they'll be around after the next UKPC

So thanks guys for supporting and if you want in here's the link ;')

The frustrating part is why SKY do not say why there have been no SPT's this year or any scheduled so far.

Why are they 'Temporarily rested' that is what the community would like to know ???

Cannot it be stated if it is a business profitability decision, lack of venues available, resources or any feedback would be good for the community to hear why no SPT's this year. Or solid future plans for SPT's. Not just hope!

I've done three, never won a penny lol, (in fact usually spend a fortune) but great weekends where the SKY community meet and have fun!

concentrating on the UKPCs, simple as that

Many Sky regulars think there is room for both, I know, but the UKPC's have big guarantees, that need to qualify as many sky players as possible so you can see why both would not be scheduled to qualify concurrently.

for all that want SATs for the £250 mini UKPC/SPT...

just use the UKPC Main sats. if/when you get to the UKPC final, dereg and take the money then use it for the mini Buy in.

make sure you buy in to the UKPC final 1st though, before you qualify for it, or you wont be able to dereg it

This is fine for most of us that have those kind of funds in our balance but what about all the others that do not have those kind of funds?  They're still being alienated which is a shame really.

Do you not think, us minnows who deposit regularly to the site
are not offended by that remark?

was the winner of the last UKPC, a regular player on the site?

Surely there has to be a balance? or do you just want elite players?

communication is the key to success but it seems lately we've all been kept in the dark

there's no need to be offended at all, nor was any offence meant

there are a multitude of opportunities for players of all bankrolls to play the UKPC. its not elitist at all.

It happens also to attract a broader range of players including UK circuit regulars who might not normally play on Sky Poker and might as a consequence do so, as well as providing Sky Sports coverage for Sky Poker, and poker in general, so has to be good news for the growth of the site doesn't it?

Quite a few SPTs were won by people not regulars (some had never even played with Sky) on sky poker either! Some became so, some didn't

  • edited June 2014
I agree that players are being kept in the dark abit about whats going on,  sky is big enough too organise more than one or two live events that some of the smaller players can get into or buy direct, granted there is sats at a very low price for UKPC but it is a very difficult challenge for us too get there.

As for non sky regs playing... this can only be a good thing for the site in its growth to be more well know and gaining a bigger customer base, and beeing shown on the sports channel which has a much bigger audience than 861. I myself would love too play along side some of the regs and even the pros that the ukpc attracts but that challenge lies ahead for me.

But think there should be buy in of around 100 too 220 buy ins for the sky players themselves.
