pub league poker

edited June 2014 in Poker Chat
Has anybody on.here ever played the redtooth poker league? I am going to play in my local from the New season which starts on 3rd of August I think. Just wondered if anyone on sky had played and what the standard.was like? They do regional and national finals with trips to Vegas to be won.

Never really played it, but I imagine the standard to be questionable at best and downright awful at worst.

My mate won a Vegas package in 2011....a week in the Rio with return flights on VA....he played the final in Liverpool I think it was, with 3 packages up for grabs. Tense bubble to say the least!

He then won a 10 seater sit n go in Vegas that Betvictor put on for all the winners. Picked up by limo, played on a tv table etc ect...

    Good luck!

Nice one. Your mate will be my inspiration lol.

Yeah I was thinking the same about the standard, and the variance should be low considering you can play as much or as little as you want as long as you play 4 times I think. I would like to think I would make the regionals.

I'll keep the forum posted if I play.

    Cheers

Live play is something else, different atmosphere different temp different feel altogether, I love too play live in fact of too the genting tonight again for a game.

I haven't played redtooth but played the NUTS poker league, pub poker around various venues in glasgow, very small prize pools but great for experience and too grow as a player, the standard is much poorer than a casino but in the long run you should find yourself constantly making final tables but miby not cashing as much. The reason for this is most games kick off around 8. 25/50 10-15 minute blinds starting. Stack average between 6-8k. By the last 5/6 players blinds are very high.. Pubs closing and bing plays a massive part near the end.

I had this problem lat Monday where we play a 20 quid game and the last 6 where pretty much shoving any face card, I shoved 88 into my brothers jj the end.

As for the standard, don't expect anyone to have a clue about position hand ranges 3x and 4x lol. Raises getting called by 5 players you hardly ever. Know what your up against. Most of your raises will be called by any ace and pair,  don't expect people too know a lot about value pot sized bets etc etc.

I did enjoy the games at first too learn, don't tell them anything sit back and watch all the leaks in these players games, they will show their hand most times and tell you what they have use this too your advantage.

I qualified every regional final for glasgow pretty much with ease and my game looking back at it was a lot poorer than what it now.

For a beer and a laugh pub pokers great... If your looking for a game get yourself too the casino which is of a much better standard but u do still get one good ones lol

Good luck in your local and hope it goes well, I'm sure u will settle into and qualify no problem at all buddy.

Thanks for the reply mate. I've played live poker at various casinos a lot and do very well (from your reply I get the impression you think i'm asking about live poker). I was only asking about pub league poker.

I have noticed the games when ive gone to the pub to watch midweek footy and it seemed a real mish mash of people. Then when I looked into it and noticed prizes for free in the regionals and a Vegas trip in the nationals I thought, hang on a minute..... Vegas..... for free??? I have also read Hilly the fish's pub league escapades in Poker Player magazine (free subscription for that too- I love a freebie lol).

I have played redtooth for years... If you get to the regional final the standard should be decent..most are players who know what they are doing.....it's free so what's to lose?...I got to the regional final and won it a few years back...only then it was a£500 and not a Vegas trip..;(.. Gl

I started off my first live poker experience playing redtooth. There is a mixed standard, some bad but some extremely good players. Got to say I enjoyed it and I played it for 3 years. Without it I wouldn't have gone on to other things. As a competative person I loved the qualifying for the regional and national finals.

I should say that a very good friend of mine is one of the owners of redtooth but my statement above is not influenced by that.

    Good luck

Pub poker is great for a really cheap way to get to know the live game.
I play a few Nuts poker games for fun with my pals - spending more on booze than I ever win.
But the regional and national events are well worth it.
I won a grand in prize money thanks to two cashes in those, two years ago.
Aside from the infrequent bigger games, it's really more a place to learn basic stuff.
    And don't bluff...
