24 Hour Poker Challenge

edited July 2014 in Poker Chat
Me and Benc have been given the responsibility of cat sitting for his brother in his house in London while he is away for the week, so we thought the most sensible and productive thing to do would be to set ourselves a 24 hour poker challenge.

The rules are simple, 24 hours of online poker, starting at 19:30 tonight, £20 going to whoever lasts longest. 5 minute breaks are allowed every hour to check the cat hasn't died.

I am going to be playing mainly HUSNG's, with the odd bit of cash and mtt when the HU games aren't running. Ben will be playing mostly cash. Feel free to hunt us down and donate some buy ins (or more likely take our money when we are struggling to see straight in 20 hours from now).

We will try and update our progress during breaks as much as we can, wish us luck!!

    Sweet challenge, good luck.

I will definitely come play against you, in about 20 hours or so :p

Got our bink bells for the occasion. I'll be at 10nl most of the 24 hours i would imagine, not playing HUsngs as i've played my 50 for the promo.

Did you sleep before the challenge?
  • edited July 2014
Yeah few hours this afternoon, was at aspers untill 3am so sleeping pattern pretty messed up anyway. Should be interesting!

Good couple and a half hours in the grind, not the greatest start for myself, already managed to lose 3 200bb pots at 10nl, KK against flopped set of 7s, AA in on turn against 910 9854 board..10 river. then 910 full house vs flopped straight flush on 79109x board. Have managed to run up some decent stacks so hopefully can claw some back. Thoich is currently running deep in the 200gtd 3 left at the moment, might swap bink bells if he takes it down, i will bust my roll at 4nl by the end of the 24 hours to not lose our 20 bet, gl at tables say hello if you are on either of ours.

Yeah I had a pretty good sleep from midday to 5pm, hopefully the extra sleep will give me an edge in the challenge :)

Just took down the £200gtd for £80 so good start to the challenge for me. Won a big pot QQ v AA v AJ all in pre for the chip lead about halfway through, so looks like I am stealing all benc's rungood. Was nursing a short stack in the £300 mega stack but just got a couple of much needed double ups to be sitting 17/25 with 10 paid.

Benc's made a bit of a recovery as well so hopefully 4nl won't be necessary.

    You boys both still going?

Oh to be young again, & do these challenges.

Good luck both, & keep us updated please.

Yeah still on the grind! alot of caffeine being consumed.

    Love those Bink Bells!

    Ding ding.

Both just about still going. Bens been on mastercash all night and I have been playing any tourney that runs. I was ready to give up around 7am but some builders started work next door making sleep pretty much impossible, so I had no choice but to continue!

We're both up about £30 at the moment, although I have a feeling that's not going to last long the way I am playing. I will be happy with breakeven and no long term health damage!

Into the final quarter  have cracked and order dominoes to get us through , have reduced my tables to 2 currently sat at 10nl pretty deep stacked if anyone fancies some super deep stacked 7betting wars, normally used to playing 25bb so being as deep as 1000bb is just pure value waiting to be taken advantage off. Thoich still grinding out the mtt and watching cricket i think pretty much both in zombie mode now.

Struggling big time with 2 hours to go. Both been pretty card dead last 3-4 hours which has made time go soo slowly.

Ben has resorted to plo to keep himself alert. I have just entered the 17:30 BH, hopefully I can drag that out for the next two hours.

Good luck guys on the run-in!

Thanks DoubleAAA plo has defo made it easier although is hard not to play every hand station off constantly post but is good fun, sure the next hour will fly by.. tempted by half hour nap and then playing the main although rather optimistic.

Grind completed, both ended in profit which is one positive, dignity and self respect on the other hand has been thrown well and truly thrown out the window.  I'll post some of the big hands from the session tomorrow, gl all on the grind hope you enjoyed laughing at the story of a couple of degens wasting 24 hours of their lives.

    wp.

As with the last one of these, put a charity up and I'll donate a few bob.

Great effort chaps!  (could've crushed £3's Ben!!!)

Thanks dohhh, This wasn't really planned in advance or anything so didn't worry about properly getting community involved and expecting people to donate or anything like that, of course is cool if you do that of your own backs towards whatever is your favoured charity but we wouldn't expect anything along them lines. It was just a spur of the moment decision and we like to have a laugh at ourselves so thought we would try and sort of document it. Anyone who has read, out of interest do you ever go to Aspers casino in stratford regularly, been their a few times recently as my brothers is in stratford and just wondered whether i may have faced any regs from sky on the virtual felt.

Just to clarify to the multiple abusers who told me to stop playing with their "taxes" i work at a school and am currently on a 6 week break for the summer hols cue the degen behaviour, However thoich has just finished his degree and deserves any abuse he gets on the tables.Decided to have quick shower and felt alright so regged the main, hopefully will run deep without falling asleep.

    Hey guys

Well done for completing your challenge, good going. I've enjoyed reading your blurb whilst unable to sleep, made me smile :D

Just risen after 15 hour sleep feeling very refreshed!

If I have learnt anything from this challenge it is the detrimental effect lack of sleep has on my ability to play poker. I was around £120 up at one point in the challenge and then didn't cash in the last 15 mtt's in the challenge to only finish up around £30 (over £1 per hour, YES!!)

Highlight of this losing run was a spectacular blow up on the £2.20 deep stack bubble. I went from massive chip leader to bubble boy courtesy of some horrendous play, including calling a 30BB  3bet shove with A3o because the guy had 3bet shove me against be in the previous hand and I thought I needed to "take a stand." Was pretty demoralising having played for 3 hours to not cash, and then realise I still had 2 hours of the challenge to grind out! The only thing that kept me going was the constant groans coming from benc as his aces got cracked by hands like Q6o for the 50th time in the challenge.

Thanks for the support through the challenge, glad you enjoyed the updates :)

I've played at Aspers a few times although not recently.  In regards to those telling you to stop playing with their taxes, that's just LOL.  Do they also tell people to stop smoking with their taxes?  You should have told them you're playing with your profits ;)
