"Live" Poker Buddies

edited August 2014 in Poker Chat
Hi
I noticed recently that a few of the Sky qualifiers for the UKPC had never played live before, which got me thinking.

To try and help "live" newbies out i thought it would be an idea to start a thread where people could state what town they are from and where and what type of games they play.

Whether its a home game with a few mates, down the pub in a local league or at a casino.

So if you're an regular live player and be willing to teach a newbie the ropes, please post here.
Likewise if you're a newbie and would like to start playing live post here also.

GL
Mick

    Great idea mate.

I'm from Bradford, I play in Bradford and Leeds. I am by no means a live reg (life gets in the way too much lol) but I have played live plenty. I play at whatever casino has a good guarantee on. I will also play cash (once/if I bust out)  which is usually 50p/£1 sometimes £1/£2.

Tbh the poker scene in Bradford is pretty dead, Leeds is far better. Would be great if any sky regs were around my area as non of my friends are remotely into poker. I'm off down to the casino tonight actually on my own!!

A bit off topic but I know team TPT organized a Blackpool meet in June, I couldn't go, but I know it was popular and there is potential for an "unofficial SPT" that forum regs could maybe organize via threads like this.

Originally from Bradford but have now lived in Newcastle for 10 years.

I have played once or twice at the Genting and at Aspers. Would be very willing to try out more live poker, particularly on weekdays as I work shifts and often have weekdays off and nowt else to do.

Hi Mick. Do you ever play in Bournemouth, specifically the Grosvenor on Westover Road? Currently nut-peddling there 2-3 times a week so, hopefully, see you there some time.

    Hi
No mate, i'm one of the "live" newbies :-)

I would probably have ventured to play live more often if Swindon had a casino, I'm almost certainly too lazy to make the lone pilgrimage to Bristol or Reading to play.

Am still hopeful that Sky will organise some games in the south again, either official SPTs or forum arranged games like the one in Blackpool. That may give me the boot up the backside required to get away from the laptop and play some cards!  I'm sure there are plenty of local casinos that would happily take business from a group of 10+ players that asked them to run a game?

Shauny it wasnt a TPT exclusive it was open to all. In fact there were only 3 of us from TPT there. And easy enough for anyone to organise their own wherever and whenever they like.

Shakinaces no need to arrange a separate game. We just gatecrashed the regular G casino tourneys at Blackpool on Friday and Saturday. We had a great time and are looking to do it again next year.

Hope it didn't come across as a team exclusive , didn't mean it to!

I live in Aberdeen and I am seeking a woman with a GSOH. I like long walks on the beach and watching the sunset with that special someone. Brunettes and redheads in the first instance; blondes bring up the rear. Chest size is not particularly relevant, although a minimum of a cup-size larger than mine would be nice. Own transport is preferable, as I do not wish to bear the burden of being your chauffeur as well as your trophy boyfriend. It would also be a bonus if you had a wellpaid job so that you could perhaps take me out once in a while instead of relying on me to buy you dinner just because I'm the man. NS only, please.

And I also play live poker locally at G Casino.

    Thanks.

You seem like quite a catch, I am just waiting for the op and I could be that special someone who could bring a little happiness to your life. What chest size would you prefer as I haven't put my order in yet.

I am playing  live at Grosvener casino in Brighton this weekend :)

Not sure if anybody will read any of the other stuff!!

In other news I went to the Bradford casino (not sure if I'm allowed to name it). They do a £500 gtd on Tuesday and Wednesday. Last night it was £20 freezeout, there were 16 runners and 2 late regs. I managed to get to the final 4, but it got pretty late (2am) and we decided to chop it 4 ways for £125 each. Its a nice quite game through the week for any live newbs to dip there toe in. And at about 10pm-ish there were enough players for the cash table.

Hi all.  I have only ever played live 3 times. Twice when a few of us met up in Blackpool and once at the Grosvenor casino in Coventry near where I live. If anybody goes to the one in Coventry I'd appreciate any advice if I knew you'd be there the same night. I'll only be the once every 5-6 weeks though due to work commitments.

I live in Newark on Trent and have a good level of live experience and consider myself to be pretty competent and knowledgeable.

I play most of my live poker at Dusk til Dawn in Nottingham and would be happy to help anyone out travelling there for the first time.  I also play occaisionally at the Alea in Nottingham as well as a few local league games in the Newark area if anyone would like an introduction to those just let me know.

i am a live noob having only played cash once and one tourney in a casino and i think i caused more problems than solved them because i wasn't really sure of the proper etiquette twice i wanted to raise and only put 1 chip on the table which was classed as a call so to get this thread back on track can someone please put in all the rules for proper etiquette when playing at a casino i am in southampton and would like to get into more live games as i find the chat around the table at a live tourney is a lot better than sitting there just clicking on a screen and then getting all the usual comments like joke site or this is so rigged i much prefer a proper convo while playing it makes it all the more interesting

There was a thread about live poker etiquette, but it'll be fifty pages back now.

I've done the one chip thing live to signify a raise... but it only works if you've already said how much.

I finished 4th for £120 ,even after making the classic noob mistake of attempting to call a raise early doors with the blinds at 25/50 and putting a 1 k and a 50 chip in lol, course I then had to follow it through v the chap who had pok js and he hit his j on the river, unfortunately for him I hit the flush, my luck shows no signs of running out yet,,arf arf.

Nice post!  I live in Rayleigh, and play regularly on the site. Never played live, but would really like to experience the live scene. Though, I'm a little daunted about playing live, not knowing all the etiquette etc. So if any kind soul lives in my area and could show me the ropes, that would be great. My local Casinos are Genting in Westcliff-on-sea, or Rendezvous in Southend-on-sea.
