very weird situation????

frenzie sattelite into tonights main.... its past the rebuy period. 3 left with 2 seats,  im all in, in the small blind with  18k  the big blind is all in with 18k and the guy on the button calls and has us both covered. the guy on the buttonwins the hand, yet im given 3rd place?? i always believed if you bust out with exact same stacks then you split the highest prize??? am i wrong? and how do they choose who gets the seat?

No unfortunately it's just random.

It's been tested in other stuff like DYMs, all people go aipf first hand and the 3 winners (apart from the 1 with the best hand) are just randomly picked.

No, it definitely appears to be random.

I always thought the prizes got allocated according to the player's positions. Those closer to the button clockwise are awarded the higher places. So BB is closest to the button in this case and is awarded 2nd.
So it's random? Live 'n' learn :-)

In this case the two smaller stacks are exactly the same.

So if Jord has say aa ,button has jq and bb has 22, board runs out 10 q k a 9 , he could still be placed 3rd? Seems bizarre to me.

It's random, always has been, hand rankings don't come into it.

Is this just a fault with the Sky software, or would that be a standard practice across all sites?

Does seem very harsh that the prize doesn't get split!

I believe if it was a live event, it would be split, maybe the rules online are different, whichever the rules are i have no problem with the outcome, but some classification from sky would be great!
