****LIVE SHOW THREAD - Thursday 25th September 2014 ****

edited September 2014 in Poker Chat

It's been a while but HURRAH I am back on the Sky Poker Sofa this evening and with none other than Mr Spittles

I'd like to say it's been a while since I saw him, but it's only been about 4 days as we were at a tournament together in France last week... Can't seem to get rid of him!!

Very excited for a top show tonight and looking forward to you guys getting in contact with us too!

Tonight we are giving away

4 seats to Tuesday's Turbo Open.

YES FOUR!!!

for best contributions to the show and we might even run a 'Guess the Hand' Competition.

Tonight I am asking about your

FAVOURITE MOMENTS FROM POKER HISTORY

There have been so many we could talk about.

Being out in Vegas when this happened in the One Drop this year was pretty epic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR52zv1GqBY

I know I would not have been able to handle it that well. This would likely have been my face

Maybe Leigh Wiltshire, an amateur poker player and all round top bloke taking down the Sky Poker UKPC 6 Max Championship was your favourite moment?

Maybe it's something more personal to you?

It could be an ultimate bad beat, someone new paving the way on the tournament circuit or the crowning of a champion....

Whatever it is LET US KNOW!!

Ways to get in contact:

  • Here on the forum
  • Using #SkyPokerTV on Twitter (follow @skypoker)
  • or email us skyopen@bskyb.com

This is what the schedule looks like tonight:

7pm-8pm – Tonight on Sky Poker – Live Master Cash coverage

8pm-9pm – Top of the Pots – Top 10 biggest pots of the week from the Master Cash tables

9pm-10pm – Poker School – Playing AK Post Flop in a tournament

10pm -11pm – Master Cash – Live Master Cash action. I may even try to multi task and play cash at the same time as presenting. Wish me luck on that one ;)

11pm-12pm – Sky Poker Highlights  – Highlights from the late stages of the Sky Sports Bounty Hunter

So that's the show... Don't forget to tell us if you've played any mastercash on the go with the new app for Ipads and Iphones or watched the new and improved live stream on the go too!

Oh... and

(I felt obliged to put a cat pic up after putting a dog one incase people were biased...)

    Hi Laura & Ryan

Good evening to you both and am looking forward to watching the show until midnight, playing the main and mini plus various cash tables.

Poker Moment : Has to be meeting the Sky poker community and presenters at my first SPT last year - and since then have gone on to meet even more in the most recent UKPC events.. and as most will know, I do enjoy a few drinks at the bar lol

Ps - Laura - "Did you enjoy my Tikay impression, the last time we met at DTD?" lol

Good Luck again with the show and to all the community playing tonight

    Cheers

Yeah, Anna lied to us. I'm disappointed...

TeddyBloat had a great idea for your 'outfit', which I'd hoped Ross would consider: You, Laura, would have to wear Tikay's clothes. I'm thinking the purple socks, black trousers, blue tie, white shirt and burgundy jacket combo. :)

Never mind. I'm sure Ryan will be excellent as always. Have a great show.

Favourite moment from poker history - Me winning my first ever tournament, of course. :)

In a more widely known sense: Marty Smyth winning the final table of the Poker Million, many moons ago in 2008. The whole thing was broadcast live on Sky Sports and it was really the game that properly got me interested in poker. At one point Smyth was reduced to a very short stack but came back to win the million.

That was Smyth's third consecutive appearance at the final table of this tournament and, as I was still a n00b to poker, it emphasised the skill of the game for me.

Good evening ladies and gents, after winning a few live tournaments I've decided to try the bounty hunter tonight. There will be a lot more runners than at a casino so I may need help from the poker Gods. They don't call me S.O.G (Son Of God) for nothing! keep up the good work guys.

    Hi guys,

    Best Poker moment:
During my first trip to Vegas last year, I took in a tourney late on my first night. and actually made it to final table!.
The guy to my direct left all night was a real menace though - Not just in the game, but being rude to various players & just being generally obnoxious & overly celebrating.
So,.. it was my SB & folded to me, I looked down at A-4 suited. Being fairly short stacked I shoved & MenaceMan called & showed A-K (gulp!)
When the 4 arrived on the turn, I was sufficiently smug. - It's always embarassing to suck out against someone, but he really had it coming!! - After he sloped off, two other players actually high fived me!.
Oh yeah & I ended up coming 2nd. So all in all a nice introduction to the Vegas experience.

Other than that. - qualifying for 4 of the Punta Cana Quartyer finals so far in the last 10 days. - still yet to progress past that. - TONIGHT is the night.... maybe! (update: - Not tonight!)

    cheers.

hi laura and ryan great show.

best poker moment taking a break when on tilt. i'm constantly blaming others for the big losses i get when on tilt. so i take a break and it turns out i was making lots of mistakes myself.

i thought i'd not return until monday but knowing i made lots of mistakes myself i might come back tomorrow night i've been reading some things and now feel happy enough to return.

    Evening both.

Hate to bring it up and brag again, but if we're talking favourite poker moments then it has to be me coming 3rd in the UKPC side event for £18,000. Up to that point my biggest ever cash was like £1100, so in the late stages every single individual ladder was many times my biggest ever cash.

In for the main and mini so will post any interesting hands if I get them.

My best poker moment is difficult as there are always some that you love at the time. I had been playing for a few years had won a few tounaments online. I had won the Open, though that wasn't the biggest win. But my first live tournament I won £90, and that felt great because it was proof I could play live too.

    Hi Troops,

Im just back from Vegas and while I was there I went to see a show at the Cosmopolitan. During the show the man dressed all in leater was reminising about hes favourite ever punter who he managed to get on stage.  While rubbing his own nips and swanning around on the stage in his leather trucks Im sure I heard him say 'I miss Spitarless' with the nice teeth and sexy body!

Hand tonights bounty hunter 820895035Ouch, but does the smaller stack make it correct?

    Hi Laura & Ryan

My favourite poker moment is part of the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table, involving the enigma that was (is?) Darvin Moon and his elimination of the one and only Phil Ivey.

Ivey was the short stack and shoved with AK. it folded around to Moon who called with AQ. Cue the Penn & Teller theater (US Spelling!) going mad with chants of "Ivey Ivey Ivey" resonating around. Of course a Queen comes on the flop and the rest is history.

Also worth mentioning was the way that Ivey took the beat, for one of the very best to lose to a complete amateur with just 7 left in the biggest tournament around must have been soul destroying but he took it with good grace, even waving to the fans acknowledging the standing ovation they gave him.

as this year is only really my second year into taking poker serious, bad beats and sky poker MTTs are the only big monents i have. my biggest one of all is yet to come, that moment is get myself to a sky poker live event and that is very difficult to achieve when there is carers.
carers can't come to anything that has a big of gambling.
as the internet in general is filled with lots of dangerous people, as this carer doesn't know them like me he will just view it as a big risk.

my biggest chance was missed when a live event was held in newcastle because atleast with newcastle it's not too far from my town.

    GREAT SHOW  guys!
Altho I'm beginning to think that Laura is suffering from " Low ELF esteem"?
    Boom Tish!

    P.S. MY most favourite moment.....

I managed to come 2nd in a Super Roller for £3k!   RyRY did tear me a new one tho when  analysing my play on FT.   He was correct, on reflection I did mangle it!

Ok one of the things that really got me saying "YES" was when Annie Duke won her WSOP bracelet in 2004. She had turned down playing in a women only event, saying why should there be womens only events so played in an open event and won, proving her point

Fav poker moment - flopping a gut-shot royal flush on a paired board.
Thinking I was up against a set, I played it fast and ended up all-in on the flop.
We flipped them over and he had a full house - giving me one out.
My pal turned over the queen of diamonds for my one and only royal!

Laura, you pilot that iPad like a pro...

Never have I seen someone time out so often. :-)

You'll get the hang of it, of course. Even though you struggled with the hardware, you still outperformed Orford. Though, as I said in the chat box, I think you should be considerably more ambitious with your goals than that.

Been a good show. Enjoy the last hour.

Enjoying the show (have to record & what later)... Laura's innocent little commentary 'slip' (or perhaps it was just comedy genius!) tickled me somewhat -

Ryan "maybe he'll go for a delayed check-raise on the turn"
Laura "no he checks instantly, doesn't use any time!"

    Hehe ;-)
