the guy was a little all over the shop - was getting the better of me for a while, but we never really got to showdown.

As he called out of SB werent really worried about the king at first, and he snap called flop which I took as 2nd pair even 3rd..but when he makes this raise I cant beat nothing except bluffs (the sizing of my bet he could have took for weak & he raise size is that of someone who can fold to a shove)

not sure if i played hand badly or should just check turn and call river bet if it comes

I'd either checkback turn or bet/fold it. Preferably checkback.

As played gotta fold now imo
