Sky Poker forums will be temporarily unavailable from 11pm Wednesday July 25th.
Sky Poker Forums is upgrading its look! Stay tuned for the big reveal!
Just recently there have been some tremendous promotion/tournaments on Sky Poker. The recent Punta Cana Holiday package and then the latest UKOPS have both been well recieved by te Sky Poker playing base, getting top class numbers. I thought the spread of games in the latest UKOPS and the satellites to the mains meant that the lower/medium funded player had a definate involvement, and the chance to pit wits with the best in the game. And yesterday i read of the announcement of another UKPC 6 max in Nottingham with obviously plenty of time and opportunity for all level of player to satellite in. At this point i want to say, i play 90% of my online games on Sky, and this is because I always feel it has a club atmosphere. Until I moved to North Wales i played almost all of my poker live, in and around the environs of Manchester, but heading into the poker desert of Clwyd put an end to that. Playing on Sky gives to me the social aspect of Poker that playing regularly at a live venue does, and this to me is the sites Unique Selling Point (Sky Admins take note). And at this point i can finally come round to the headline of this piece Poker/Life balance. Because despite my plaudits for Punta Cana and UKOPS Main Event, i did not play in either. The reason being that on both dates there were bands I wanted to see on the nights in question, "The Hold Steady" on Punta Cana Play Off and Electric Mary on UKOPS ME. Let me tell you the temptation not to see these bands but instead play there poker events on those nights was HUGE. I love playing poker, and Sky Poker is where i want to play it. However, having gone to see them both bands let me tell you, I made 100% the right decision. Live Music well performed is second to nothing. Incidentally Tikay can't believe you haven't dropped into to see the Mary's on their recent tour, I know what a headbanger you are at heart and if you think of Electric Mary as 'Motorhead Lite" you won't be far wrong. Ultimately i guess what I am saying is playing poker is great, playing major events is fantastic, but making sure you keep it in balance with life is what its all about. Personally. hope to qualify for the UKPC and see as many of my fellow "club" members there as possible, heavy rock gigs permitting!

Yo Memfno,
I agree, life balance is SO SO important.
I really don't like seeing it when people are poker obsessed to the exclusion of everything else. Poker is a GREAT game, & I love it to bits, but there needs to be balance.
If we only walk, talk, think, speak & write poker, where is the room for life's luxuries such as bridges, tunnels, railway termini & the like?
I obviously spend a lot of my life immersed in poker, but every single day I leave time to read (non-poker) books, watch You Tube Music Vids & Nature Docs on TV, or just peruse some of the incredibly interesting Wiki pages.
Here's a real beaut for you.

I dare anyone to tell me that page does not fill them with awe & wonder.
With regards to the life balance some would say I spend too much time on my PC but where else can you get all this information at your fingertips? News in an instant, some fascinating docs on UTube, especially the vintage stuff. The ionternet is an amazing place for discovering new musicians e.g. Laurence Jones, a fantastic 22 year old Blues/Rock artist. The internet is a place where you can learn something interesting every day.
Those pumping stations are a thing of beauty and seem heavily influenced by Middle Eastern design, even that new one at Abbey Mills has taken inspiration in it's roof shape.
