Set over set is always hard, sometimes impossible, to get away from.

You have played it very strong on the flop and he still wants to shovel chips in....I'm not sure how crazy he goes with AA and AK on the flop, or even some combo draw like A4s, especially with position.

It's a weird spot cos it's hard not to lose the lot, but you have to ask yourself what could he have that is desperate to play for stacks on that flop.

Villain is a very good, well known player fwiw.

Most of the time, nope. Flop 3-bets are in general really very strong though and so there is definitely cause for concern when that happens and I may consider just flatting the flop 3-bet. We would still likely go broke (esp when we hit our FH OTT) but our hand at this point is a very strong bluff catcher - if we 4-bet/ship flop here then our hand range for just flatting the 3-bet becomes really weak. (mostly draws and Kx hands)

The other option which would have saved you is to consider folding pre. We're OOP and with the worst pair possible it's just really hard to play post-flop unless we hit a set. And even when we do flop a set we've then got to make enough chips to counter balance the ones we lose when we don't flop a set. A good player isn't going to pay you off either unless you've been active enough with other hands that he may think you are at it. So yeah overall it isn't a very profitable pre-flop call and as such it's a situation that could be avoided. Still, v unlucky to run into another set!
