Yeah cos 80/20's always hold on other sites.

You've posted 3 hands in here today and all 3 are dubious to some degree on your part.

Again shove is too big. Just make your normal size open
  • edited December 2014
As JD say too many chips to shove in a dym at 50/100, 2x or 3x and play from there. But probably would have lost the hand anyway.

Ok guys, but my point is this...

If i play 2 games, and i get my money in good both times , but i lose both games, it makes it near impossible to win..

Gonna have to play a few more than just two games to balance things out.

This is a pretty bad shove in a DYM spot and you are lucky he only had 66

Yep, i thought that as i typed it..  just losing 2 in a row when youre way ahead preflop is annoying... lol

Not really..   17bb in the cut off..

blind stealing is vital in some spots...

Poker is about exploiting your opponents. If OP was against very good players then his shove is pretty bad. But when you have someone calling off with 66 then shoving is EXACTLY what you should be doing.

Yeah cause blind stealing at 50/100 with a 1700 stack in a DYM is vital...

Considering the majority of players at these levels are not great, what range would you advise open shoving like this as a general strategy for dyms?

Good question.. for me, it is just when i feel i'm very likely to be ahead of villians range, just like in the hand above where i had JJ.

This player seems to think J 5 is enough.. and i still lose..

    This is true.

However, I'm unsure if OP consciously thought 'that guy in the blinds will snap me with any pair', or of he thought 'I have JJ and I'm not sure what course of action to take.....meh I'll just shove'.

I'm leaning towards the latter after his comment about stealing the blinds, but happy to be proved wrong.

Probably just 99-JJ. They have enough equity vs a call. We can consider 3x open too (esp with JJ) but I think min-r is a mistake - it invites calls which is something we don't really want in a DYM with these hands surely? I mean open shoving wins outright 150 chips. If we min-r and get called we need to make quite a bit more than 150 chips on avg for min-r to be better (maybe at least 300 chips)
