edited January 2015 in Poker Chat
hey all, i went to vegas last year as part of a coast to coast USA  trip & had such a blast i'm looking to go back next year. Could anyone provide any insight ito the best / worst months to go, and any good tips for reducing costs or good deals for single occupancy in any particular hotels?

thx,

    Hi puppetJack,

I would check that there aren't any big events or conventions on, as the hotel prices rocket if there is.  Sunday to Thursday is the cheapest days as the weekend prices are higher.

For a reasonable hotel room in the heart of the strip, and assuming as a single, that you are not trying to impress a partner, then I would suggest the Quad or Casino Royale.  Not the most modern, but good value for money.

    Hi there,

Yeah 67bhoys makes a great point about getting the timing right with any big conferences.

I've read that November is a pretty quiet time and you can get some good hotel deals.

However if you fancy adding some poker in then def be out there for the WSOP!  While there are thousands of poker players in town, by Vegas standards its one of the quieter months so hotels are reasonble plus so much action going on and a lot of easy money to be made so potenial on making some money to pay for the trip!

Most hotels charge a resort fee - I believe that you can get this waived if you claim that you won't be using the pool and other services that it's charged for. Also many of the hotels charge for WiFi too - it is availble for free in most of the poker rooms on the strip (know Venetian and Wynn have a really good service) so you can save a few quid there if it isn't essential.

Pick up a three SIM card before you go.  They have a feel at home plan that allows you to use UK minutes/data in the US so def check that out.  I'm on contract with them but they offer the same service on PAYG too.

I would say for hotels, certainly don't just assume cheapest = best value for money. Remember that the strip is a pretty big place and staying in somewhere like the Stratosphere will mean more cab fares as it won't be fun walking from there to any other major casino.  Off the top of my head the Quad/Harrahs/Monte Carlo/Flamingo are all decent options.  Booking direct with the hotel can sometimes be cheaper than the hotel comparison sites.  Also you'll see many hotel chains that claim to be on the strip but it's really not so avoid those.

Make sure you sign up for the rewards cards, especially if you are playing poker.  At the Venetian for example I think its $2/hour.  Doesn't sound like much but soon adds up and pays for the odd meal.

Downtown at Freemont street has some very cheap deals so if you don't mind being off strip and seeing a more old school vegas experience then check that out.

Cheers guys, in my tewo previous visits I stayed at the stratosphere & the circus circus, so am fully au faix with their relative location. was thinking when I go of staying at the Excalibur or NYNY maybe, so have a vague idea of my plan as it is, but I'll certainly take the recommendations on board.and yeah, I wont be impressing anyone. - My wife can stay here!

     Thanks for the tips guys.
