Some interesting stats!

I play on and off on Sky Poker, and have always considered myself a very average player, with a few good wins now and then but overall a losing player.  I dreaded to think how much i had actually lost over the years playing poker.  I have heard about a site called Sharkscope, and how you can check on stats about your play etc, and you get limited access for free.  I decided to bite the bullet and find out how much i had lost over the years, and it turns out from what i can see that i am actually in profit over the time i have been registered with Sky Poker, which i was shocked about... Here are a few things i noted.

-I registered on 25/11/2011 (must have had nothing better to do Christmas Day!) and stats go till 31/12/2014.
-My average stake is £5.70 (i usually play the £5.75 bounty hunters).
-My total cashes are £5,399.
-My Average ROI is 38.2%
-AND after 676 games my total profit is £1,141

I know that £1,141 profit in roughly 3 years is not huge, but it's better than the huge negative figure i was expecting!

Anyone that uses Sharkscope, is the data they have usually reliable? 

I say i usually play £5.75 bounty hunters, but i dont manage my bankroll, and i haven't taken it very seriously, so when i do win a few hundred in a tournament, i enter a larger tournament for £11, £22 and even have entered £55 main event tournaments, and have lost early in them, so in reality, if i didn't do that, i could have an even larger profit.

After reading this information on Sharkscope, i am going to deposit, £250 on to Sky and play £5.75 bounty hunters only (even if i have a large win), i will play every day, or atleast try and do 1 a day and see how it goes for 3 months.  I have read up on bankroll management, and am going to stick with a minimum of 40 buy ins.

The reason for my post is not to start a diary on here but to just find out more about sharkscopes data, and to gather your thoughts on my findings, and any tips and advice moving forward would be really great.

I hope to participate in the Sky Poker community a lot more, and hopefully even play some large events.

By & large, yes. Not 100% accurate, but over a large sample size, it is generally not far out. People complain it misses the odd result - correct - but on balance, it is pretty accurate.

Note that it only tracks MTT's & SNG's - it does NOT track "Cash Game" results.
 
Congrats on your results, which will be the envy of many. If you are enjoying your poker, & winning a few bob, that's pretty much the nut result.

Definitely very good numbers and yes S/S will be pretty accurate on tournament winnings.

Sometimes the odd event isnt included and if you get a free entry S/S doesnt know that.

Always good to track your own results and see what really is working best for you and S/S is a useful cross-check.

I am curious as to why you assumed you were losing? Are you losing money elsewhere on the site, cash games/sports bets/casino? Or do you just withdraw and deposit alot without keeping track?

Phantom66, you are exactly right, i deposit £20/£30 at a time, and withdraw when winning, not keeping a track along the way.  I guess i thought i was making more deposits than withdrawals, however the deposits are obviously a lot less   I know my profits over 3 years aren't the best, but i'm quite happy with my results if they are correct.

Going forward, i will be keeping a closer eye on my results and keep an eye on my bankroll management, and see how i get on.  I assume it is harder to do well consistently in the MTT's with 100 plus players compared with the 6 max S&G's.

Yes, far more variance in the 100 runner MTT's, but of course the prizes are much bigger, too.

If you go that route, expect your graph of profit & loss to be much more "swingy".

I'm not sure how you could think you were losing then find out almost the opposite! Maybe just a long run of stagnation that feels like losing? The easiest way to tell if you're winning is to take deposits from withdrawals plus any account balance though if you are constantly moving funds in and out that's not too easy.

I've not looked you up, but your graph should tell you whether your positive form was recent, historic or consistent. Whichever, it's always good to think about your game and what improvements you can make. Winning players can win more!

The other thing to note is that SS won't track cash so if you dabble in that you might have a negative total there balancing some of the other results.
