On the bubble in a £3.30 DYM

edited January 2015 in The Poker Clinic

This hand happened on the bubble of a £3.30 DYM, i had been playing fairly aggresive for the last few orbits as i was a massive chip leader and wanted to chip away at the players i knew wouldnt want to get involved with me, then i was faced with this shove my thinking at the time was he only had around 1.3k chips and even if i lost than hand i would 5.1k chips and in with a good chance of cashing, also having seen me be agresive last few rounds i assume he would be shoving abit wider than normal so figured with pocket tens the worst i could be facing was a race. what are your guys thoughts?

If we're raise/calling it off....is it not just better to open jam on the BB?

  • edited January 2015

    8 bb's effective = a simple all-in pre-flop.

Pay no heed to the result in this instance, 100% correct to get it in here.

Can induce a lot worse to shove against these villains at this sort of blind level, so not a real issue. I personally would be jamming on them

    Some people may disagree

But you can fold pre flop, 6k in chips we are 99.99% certain to cash anyway.

i can see where your coming from and this was the opinion of a phantom who i was talking to in my diary. i think your right that with 6k i should cash 99% of the time but that doesnt mean we shouldnt take the chances to knock these guys out right?
  • edited January 2015
Yes take the chance with AA, KK, QQ, AK :)

    PS

People always think its the big stacks job to be aggro and knock people out its not.

If i had to play the hand i would just shove pre and pick up the blinds most of the time.

I wouldn't say plenty of worse hands. 66-99 maybe and some A7-A9. I think overall TT is not strong enough to want to induce because we don't really want to be getting involved in potential flips and put a dent to our stack. So I do think shipping is def preferable to raise/calling. A quick PPT and we can see that it's equity against that range isn't that great. JJ against the same range is 60%, but still not quite enough to want to induce. (AKs is 57%) Only QQ with 67% equity is strong enough to induce. (and obv KK + AA)

Villain would have to be shoving super wide for us want to induce with TT. If we look at this seemingly pretty large range, we still only have 60% equity with TT. For us to have the same equity as QQ vs a shove, villain would have to be shoving with 45% of hands - and that just likely isn't happening unless villain is a maniac.

So yeah, conclusion is that open shoving is best. We do have a stack size now where we can consider folding. If players were decent and nitty then I might not want to fold b/c what could happen if we just sit back and constantly fold and the other players are v nitty in calling shoves vs each other then what might happen is your blinds gradually start going to the other players - suddenly you're only 4k stacks and everyone else is 2.7k... but at this level you can prob min-r enough to at least keep your stack high w/o having to risk an all in. But I think TT is just too strong and would just ship.

    Are phantom and dazza regs?

Will you be playing them alot?

If so it might be worth folding just to p!ss them off so they might tilt and play erratically on other tables.

Without those kind of reads I'd just shove all in pre flop.

Nice one doh. For the record had he folded i would have admired the play and not been tilted at all.

Im with stuarty who is much more of a reg than me at dyms.

For the full context here check rlts diary.

It was more a case of general dym bubble chat.

Rlt was big stack and min raising alot. Not enough to be taking the urine but enough to be doing so with less than premiums.

In this hand he induced a shove and lost a flip in a later hand i was the bb with the reshove. I was dominated but won.

My general advice is stay out of trouble and lock in the win. As ivan says you cant shut down completely as stacks can level off and blinds bring you back in.

I would say save your minraising for tight midstacks. Case for inducing v lag or desperate shortie on bb with a premium but not tt.

This specific hand open shove or fold are fine. Cant complain about the call as played given stacks and money in pot.

Depends on the players you're up against to some degree.

Regs who know what their doing - shove pre.

Just average £3 dymers meh I dont mind the induce here. Sure we're flipping a lot but flip and lose here you've still got over £5k at 150 blinds. Having seen you play, you've more than enough experience and skill at this level to still coast to the money. I'm buying the ticket to end the game.

Having said that probably in a real game scenario I probably just shove pre because it's the easiest play.
