I feel like I did the wrong thing here pre flop

edited January 2015 in Sit & Go Strategy

This is a hand from late into a DYM

Should I have shoved the reraise or folded?

    Probably.

Calling to be oop with A high isnt usually a winning play. Especially if you check fold to action.

whether a fold or raise is better or not depends on many things.

Relative stacks between you and other players. Opponents image and yours. Any history etc.

I would probably just shove aq pre in that spot.

Only min-r this late in a DYM for 2 reasons:

    a) to raise/fold
    b) to induce a shove

AQ is too strong a hand to want to raise/fold but not really strong enough to induce - therefore much better to just ship pre-flop.

    Shove pre flop.

Personally I like the min raise, purely to induce the short stack in the BB to shove over you, which he will do with a wider range than calling all-in.

As soon as the other big stack raises, I am folding, unless I have specific notes on this player which say he bluffs in the late stages or is willing to risk his chips with any decent ace.  No need to tangle with another big stack and risk your strong position.  It's possible his 3 bet range here includes weaker hands than AQ, but not many I would guess.  At best you are flipping probably.  I'm not sure he's 3 betting AJ or KQ here very often.

My biggest recurrent mistake in DYMs has been overplaying AK and similar in the late stages when I am comparatively safe, in just these kind of spots.
