edited April 2015 in Poker Chat
Im sure there are alot of people that have been where i am  out there hard to put into words but 2 years ago i had a really nice bankroll and within the space of a few months i blew the lot was i being to co cky thinking this game is easy positive tilt etc possibly yeah my biggest weakness was roulletes lost most of my bankroll on no edge just luck i will never learn just really stupid all the hard work of playing learning poker doing ok for myself to being a degen

my post really is i have no motivation speaking to a freind a while back he said well deposit £20 and start at 4 nl multitabling u will soon build a roll up but my reply was from having a 4 k roll and losing it all to be bk playing 4 nl kinda sucks azz tbh i just cant motivate myself in playing so i just dont not played ina while now just the odd mtt thats it

what i dnt miss is the 16 hrs a day 6 days a week playing non stop poker no life etc i wont miss that most of my freinds dnt understand poker so speaking to them saying stuff about it just goes over there head saying u can make more money on poker then working 40 hrs a week u could win more money in 1 day then a weeks salary they just think its rigged etc that cant be right surely what u win 1 day u will lose the next etc

my thoughts are that you shouldn't seek motivation.  you are not seeking to be demotivated.

you either are motivated or you're not.  whichever it is, it is a natural balance. why try and distort it.  if you want to play, then play.  if you don't, then don't.  if you want to stop, then stop.  leave, then leave.  you have a track record of changing your mind on all these things and announcing life long decisions in advance.  polarising it all into all or nothing.  later changing your mind.

my point is why not just aim to decide things for now.  for today, not for tomorrow.

ps  my guess is that you have a tattoo which you regret.

From small acorns and all that.

If you wanna play the game and you can't afford to stick a few hundred quid on or whatever, then yeah start at 4NL, I know a few people that have had +£200 months at 4NL, couple of them and you can be playing main events, higher stakes cash etc. gotta start somewhere.... but as Aussie said, if you don't want to play, then you can't force it, and why would you want to force yourself to do something you don't want to do.

Fwiw, I think Don has a similar issue where it's like he has to do constant 12hr days, or nothing at all, no middle ground. Why not just play 4NL for an hour or two, if you get bored, stop, come back tomorrow or later the same day or whatever.

As a person who spuked alot on blackjack all I can say is exclude urself and go back to ththe start when u loved poker, for me I was playing with pro wong on tilt 5nl w
ilst playing the 75man / 30man 5, 5 tournements, watching the old school videos of poker in the dark,

Change back to lower stakes can be annoying but who deos like a spin up from 20. =)

I left the game 5 years ago because of work and since then my life has changed a lot with a family and new home etc. I used to play part time but professionally. When I left the game, I had become disillussioned by it as it had become a job rather than a hobby but recently I wanted to see if I still loved the game and whether to get back into playing.

With my circumstances different, I knew I would never be a heavy player again (3 year old kids dont allow 5-6 hours of tourney play without interuption!!!)

However, I went and started playing a league at my local snooker club. Same hard core group every week of about a dozen and I had a really good laugh with them. I won a few quid but it was more about the social side and the knowledge that I was still competitive. After a few months, I joined Sky Poker to try my luck at making a few quid playing which has been ok so far.... however having that fun game for £30 on a Wednesday night made me enjoy the game again which had become a chore after a while.

    Hope it helps

Your the only one who can motivate yourself. YOU blew YOUR roll and YOUR the one that can replace it. It wont be easy, it will be a grind. It may suck that you have to grind low but that's life so either get a job and then deposit a chunk and play higher or get on with grinding. It shouldn't be easy but I am sure as you get into it you will actually enjoy it.

Don't know if what I said seems harsh but too many people seem to want to win loads without putting in the hard graft. You need to get a balance and treat it like a job assuming that's your plan. So you have a set amount of time you play per week/month. Finally, if you don't have enough self control for the other parts of sky then self exclude.

16 hours a day 6 days a week???? I did that to almost win a vegas package, no way I would do that every day!!

I fell out of love with the game many a time after blowing my roll. The first time I blew my roll I had tilt problems and no bankroll management - the 2nd time was pretty much the same. The third time I thought I had it sussed and was using decent BRM or so I thought. But it was still not the best BRM and a downswing and tilt and I blew it again. Then I did the same the 4th time.

£20 and 4nl might seem too tedious to begin with but sure you could save up £200 to invest? That's what I started with the 5th time a year and a half ago when I should have been revising for my resits! Turned that £200 to £1k in a month of solid grinding at 20nl and 30nl and never looked back since.

You have to find your game - too many focus on making it to the high stakes arena whereas in reality most consistant players will play multi-table lower stakes and make a great income. Over time I have tried all levels and I have found that the players at the various levels play different games. Too lower stakes for me dont work as a lot of the players do not play with any logic and that mixes up any read. Too higher stakes is so aggressive that it doesnt suit my play style.

Nowadays I realise that my cash game needs more work, so I find myself playing MTT or STT as this is my most successful market.

You need to sit back, realise what you are good at and at what level. Start afresh and really put down some money management in place.

Money should be the motivating factor.

You haven't got any and therefore you don't have a way of making any at the moment.

Wait till you have some and then use it to make more.

It's not hard, you'll be sitting in the easiest real money games on the internet. Put music on, play xbox, watch a film at the same time.

If you 'cba' then you're not that Rs'd about being skintoooooo r ya.
