BB was away so raising just to blind him out.

If he happened to sit back in i'm happy with this hand.
Player x 3-bet and i folded.
No need to go to war in this spot, but when i folded he asked "why raise then?"
Thoughts on my initial raise and the 3-bet?

I wouldn't raise any hand in this spot if SB is competent because if we & BTN fold SB will raise it up and BB will fold and be left with 72 chips so almost guaranteed to go out within a few hands time. 

Once you raise tho as SB I also would never 3b or get involved - again there is just no point in him doing so given the BB will be going out very soon.

Think the min raise is good. Probably about even money that the SB walks the away player then pots the next two hands based on the after the fact read. Even without it probably have to win at showdown more often by open folding than you would by min raise/ folding.

Hope i have  read it right.

You are utg why are you raising when someone is away, small blind will do that. Just fold small blind will blind him out. Player away will be allin next hand anyway.

SB is clearly not away and is never going to fold when BB is away. If he does, well it sucks a bit but isn't the end of the world. BB is still going to be blinded out very soon. Just zero need for us to get involved in a pot. SB's 3b you could say is un-neccesary but does Vespa even have a raise/call range in this spot? Even with AA23ds you don't want to risk going out when SB will all in next hand. (and then again in a couple hands time twice if he stays in with his first AI)
