Asbestos when it doesnt really matter.

I drive over to a small trade outlet in Hailsham, East sussex to pick up some bits.
In the shop, they have a cardboard box over their PC screen, they take it off to serve me.
I ask them  if they normally pack the screen away when they've finished with it.

The chap says someones working on the roof above, removing some asbestos, screws and bolts are dropping down and they didnt want the  screen smashed. I can hear drilling and hammering above.

A moment later a cloud of asbestos dust and ceiling plaster comes falling  down, covering my head and shoulders. Not enough to hurt, but a cloud of it.

I said  to the chap behind counter. You shouldnt be working in this and the shop should be shut.
 He said they were nearly finished so it doesnt really matter.

Sort it out sky.

its deadly the shop should of been closed as soon as asbestos was discovered no one should,ve been in the vacinity untill it was removed by govt recomended specialists

you only need a speck of asbestos dust to settle on your lungs for it to be potentially fatal not now but in the future

if i were you id see a doctor for advice

i work on many builing sites mostly new build where asbestos risks are already dealt with,but sometimes earthworks dig up asbestos unseen underground if this happens the site is imediatly closed down for the forseeable future

Does not sound like asbestos if the guys are banging and drilling and place not closed off. Strict rules in place for it. Last year I was heading a takeover of another business and the business we brought was a 1950's asbestos build. Anything that was exposed had to have a specialist team in, that's the law.

Spotting asbestos dust vs plasterboard normal dust can not be done via naked eye. I would still take the bug ger on for having a feeling falling on ya head! As for health, asbestos in large dosages is needed to cause real damage. One hit won't do much

When i parked up outside the shop, there was a work van there , a ladder leading up to the roof  a cheerful builder (who nodded and smiled) and a pile of broken corregated asbestos sheets and other roofing  paraphanalia .

I do building work myself, ive been on an asbestos awareness course, its down tools and report the asbestos, this firm was getting a quick roof repair done on the cheap. In an open shop.I had a read on him, he gave himself away  when he shrugged the downfall off.

the shop was coated in like a ceiling dust and whatever. I know i cant tell what was asbestos or ceiling debris. But it didnt really matter cos they were nearly finished.

Our business center had an area treated earlier this year. It looked like that scene from the film E.T where the house was taken over by scientists.
Temporary corridors - everything taped off - controlled access - men in what looked like anti-radiation suits - decontamination units.
Pretty serious!

This is not always the case mate..... I lost my mum 11 weeks ago to messathlioma (no idea how you spell it) she according to solicitors she probably got it from washing my dad's overalls back in the early 70's when he worked for British rail.. Yet he is as fit as a lop, although I do agree with the rest of what you say even to take down a garage you need a team of specialists with permits to take it down.

British Rail sure got through a lot of it. When the dangers were unknown (or unknown to those actually working with it), guys used to play football with it. No protection was ever issued or worn.

I recall seeing an interview with Cyril Smith, a couple of years ago, who had the arrogance to defend its use when the dangers were known by saying 'you wanted the jobs, didn't you?'

Seems like the 70's were a very dark time in general, that are only now coming to light.

ive just done my asbestos awareness test,passed 1st time

blue and brown are the worst white which is mostly used between 1950/80 is bad but you do have to be exposed to it regularly and it has to be the fibres but still deadly and it takes 15 to 60 years to affect you

once confirmed there's no going back unfortunately

so abit of info there
