Macau Trip

edited July 2015 in Poker Chat
Thinking of heading out to Macau with a few friends as we've all been to Vegas a couple of times now.

Looking at flights and it seems to be about 10% cheaper than a Vegas flight but the Hotels are 25-30% more expensive per night!

Anyone got any good tips, particularly the best/cheapest airports to fly into (I don't mind connecting a few times if it'll save me a bit, I've got plenty of time), and anyone got any Hotel reccomendations?

I also heard it's really difficult to find low-stakes games? Happy playing 2-5NL but don't really want to be venturing up to 5-10 unless anyone has experience of them being really soft.

What is the daily MTT scene like over there?

Thanks for the help!

Why you heading out there? Macau is pretty different to Vegas...Macau is just pure high stakes gambling. No party, no banter, no atmosphere. Flights might be 10% cheaper, but Vegas is about 10000% better.

Fair enough - was purely looking at it as an alternative to Vegas as we've all been there a few times.

If it's definitely nowhere near as good, then we'll just head out to LV again, I've definitely not got a high stakes poker bankroll...

Was just giving you a little heads up, because a lot of people do assume it to be the 'Asian Vegas' whereas i believe it is quite different, going of those people ive spoke to who have been there. I'm sure someone here will have been to both and give you better insight though

    when i was last there

    no mtt scene
half the casinos poker rooms were smoking
but wynne was nice and non-smoking
can't remember the buyin - highish but the field wasn't very tough

check flights to HK as well as its just a ferry ride away, and it makes for a nice two centre holiday

oh - and it's nothing like vegas, but it is an interesting location

if you are going for the poker - stick to vegas unless you are intending just to grind the cash tables
if you are wanting an interesting asian trip with the possibility of playing some cash poker then it's fine, but don't just stay in macau.

Thanks for the heads up - you're right Alex I did just assume it to be the Asian Vegas!

I have to go to Taipei next year for a Trade Show, so maybe I'll try and go for a few days after that a a tourist!

Don't forget your passport if you do visit!

I was in Hong Kong 2 years ago, and had planned to take the ferry to Macau for a mooch around on my last evening. Despite being pretty well travelled, I didn't think I'd need my passport for the journey, I was wrong. By the time I got back to the hotel, I couldn't be bothered to head back out again.

Don't make the same mistake as me :)
