Say you are new. Announce "call" or "raise". Single movement of chips over line, don't take them back. When in doubt, always bet with 2 or more chips when raising. Most importantly, have fun. My favourite poker rooms are the MGM and Monte Carlo-because they are friendly (and not particularly good).

Try and get a game in at a local casino before you go.

Yeah I'd certainly look to do that. Good bit of practice for Vegas. I wouldn't worry too much about being a live newbie. There are plenty of people in the same boat in Vegas, and the dealers are helpful in this respect.

If you're looking for cash games, good (soft) rooms in my experience are Monte Carlo, Flamingo, Excalibur. Heard good things about cash in Planet Hollywood too. $1/$2 is the norm, some run $1/$3.

If tournaments are your thing, you'll be spoilt for choice! Many have crapshooty structures though, so if you want something reasonable head to places like Aria, Bellagio, Venetian. The $125 MTTs at Aria are probably the best of the bunch, they usually run twice a day at 1pm and 7pm, and attract healthy runners to create decent prizepools.

    Enjoy!
